the other file is a stock recovery and stock rom. you could do that but you will still have s-off.
try download the file and try it again.

I have seen some that said they had to flash the s-on tool a couple times to get it to take.
ok hopefully you got it worked out, but if you did not. so when you flash the s-on tool end it finishes what does it do? does it say anything?
try running it again. it might take a few tries like xtreme said.
ok so i completely forgot about this. it has to do with how you originally flashed the evo. if you used the unrevoked forever to root or unrevoked3. if you used unrevoked forever then the s-on tool will get s-on (sometimes you may need to run it a few times to get s-off).
however, if you used unrevoked3 then try the PC36IMG file. it may sat s-off after running the s-on tool, but after you run the PC36IMG file, it should say s-on.

Finally! glad that worked. i was revamping the Revolutionary guide when it hit me that maybe the PC36IMG file will get s-on after all. glad that worked.
