Root please help with root!!

I have the DX I have tryed and tryed to root this phone. Can't do it! I need some help bad. Where can I find a step by step guide for this? Do I have to install on laptop first? Or can I do it straight from my phone?
 
Do i need to do any back up on my droid x before starting to root it? if yes how do i go about doing it?

followed instructions for oneclickroot many times tried pete's and droid3 and it went through all 3 steps rebooting my phone over and over but i dont think it worked nothing has changed.

nvm its been rooted :P
 
you can only do a backup after your rooted. its a good thing for newbies to do backups, veterans like myself, and im sure a few others dont do backups anymore :p

once you get the hang of this phone and its features and become a veteran like us, you wont do backups either

but you must first root, then download titanium backup, and droid x/2 bootstrapper,

with droid x bootstrapper on gb you have to make sure that usb debugging is unchecked, and then check it again once you boot up

withi droid 2 bootstrapper you just hit and go
 
Some of us other veterans are backing up all the time... :D

TIBU twice a week and a nandroid every time a rom is flashed o/w about once a week.
