Please post here when you receive ics ota

I think I'm going to wait until the OTA to make a final decision on my rom. However if the OTA helps make an AOKP 4.1.2 rom. Welll...... I think I might switch.

I'm sticking with aokp until after the ota rolls out and people start talking about his they like it. If it ends up like gingerbread.. I'm not even gonna bother with it

For what it's worth guys heard back from my BBB complaint and this was theresponse that was relevant to include . It was much more specific compared to anything else so hopefully it's accurate.

We are happy to see Mr. Davidson is excited for the new software, and we are on track to update the Spectrum to Ice Cream Sandwich in the coming weeks, though the specific date is not yet available. As in the past, the upgrade will be distributed to our customers in phases over the air. In the event that Mr. Davidson does not receive the automated update, he will also be able to manually download the new software version by going to the Settings menu on his Smartphone, tapping Software Update, and then selecting “Check New” to download.”

We will see if it holds true.

here is the response i got from VZW the other day about the update:
------------------------

Hi Nick,

With all the excitement around the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, I can totally see why you would want it! My name is Becky and let me check to see what I can find out for you.

I did review our database and the only thing that it states is that the Ice Cream Sandwich is coming soon to the LG Spectrum in the upcoming months. I know you have waited long enough, and this is something you probably dont want to hear, and I am very sorry, but at this time we do not have a date when this operating system will be available on the device. I really wish there was more that I can tell you. Please understand that Verizon Wireless will release the stable finished update to you as soon as it is ready. We are committed to giving you the best, and we will not release the update until we are confident that it will run smoothly without issues or bugs. I do truly appreciate your understanding and patience.

If you have any other further questions or concerns, just reply to this email and I can take of it for you. I want to make sure that you are satisfied with us. You are a truly valued customer and deserves the best! Thank you by the way.

Sincerely,

Becky

other than that, nothing specific

I personally think vzw has to wait as the LG Intuition, which is hot, btw, was just released as it has ics on it. I've been thinking of maybe even porting it to the spectrum. Might try it tonight.

That would be awesome if you succeed. The leaked version is already great, not sure what a port could add though.

As far as VZ saying they want to release a stable version without bugs is bogus. Any android version is going to have bugs because of the difference in the phones themselves. Over on the rooted section of this forum you see that people with the same phone experience very different problems with their phones after following the exact same steps to get the ROM on their phone.

Because we have the leak, which has root I don't really see a need for VZ's ICS update anymore.

If you can get it ported over without having the data issues that'd be way cool man. I'm LG has probably changed some things in the version of ICS on the Intutition, hoping you can do it man!

Agreed, except the leak is 7_05 and the latest is what 7_15? There's got to be some benefit to the newest builds. I can't find any flaws, though.

might have to keep some of the /system/app files from the leak because of the width of that phone... some apps might not play nice with our screen... but i hope you can get something working.. im loving your leak so far.. and any improvements wouldnt hurt

Can someone on stock check please? It was odd cause just a few minutes ago when I turned my phone off it went into download mode with a message saying please don't unplug it power off device. I wasn't even checking for an update but it just seemed odd. What else would cause that download mode?

And there isn't going to be. The Spectrum won't get ICS.

Thinking about jumping ship. Too many problems with this phone for my liking. And hte complete lack of support is sad.

What is your basis for saying the Spectrum won't get ICS? All posts and replies from LG and VZW have indicated that the Spectrum will get ICS including the leak we have. Why would LG build ICS for the Spectrum if VZW had no intention of ever releasing it. VZW has to make a request to LG to make the new software.

It's been announced. I know there is a new thread but the people who are subscribed and don't check the others. Exciting I know. A little late, I know. But it's coming now!:D

Guess whoever got the information that we were getting it before Jan 1 seems to be right lol. Only about 5 months after they initially promised it and about 1 month too late for some of us. (ICS leak)

It apears this update will lock your bootloader. Which means you will be unable to root or flash custom roms on the phone unless a workaround is found.

If you plan on rooting your phone at a future time, wait until one of the devs can make a flashable version of the update with this nastiness removed.

I don't know if I'm that patient :p

I'll probably see what others think and if it seems good enough I might be willing to give up root for a solid ICS rom on my phone.

I could be wrong, but i think you can still root with a locked bootloader. Installing any non stock recovery requires unlocking the boot loader though. Atleast that's the story with my Asus TF300, i am rooted with a locked bootloader.

Yea you can root with a locked bootloader. Motorola devices are an example.

I find it a bit odd that lg wants to lock the bootloader now with the update... It's been unlocked this whole time. But that's probably not an issue... There are bootstrap apps to allow romming on locked devices.
