PLEASE READ: Reguarding the 2.1 Update for the Motorola Droid

The only trick is just waiting or posting in some of the forums dedicated to Google Voice invites and ask for you. You can search to find the threads on these boards for those.

Did you update Google Voice? After I applied the latest update, I received that notification asking for permission to allow Google Voice to access my gmail account.

So I clicked on it cause of your response. Google voice is exactly what it was. Haha, thanks.

See anything different? Nope. We're all still waiting. I called Verizon, and ended up with a woman on the line who had no idea what I was talking about. Verizon could care less, and that's the general attitude they have always had from my experience. If I hadn't heard so much about how T-Mobile sucks, I would already have a Nexus 1.

Anything come of this yet? I suppose not...

maybe but it seems that both phones are rooted however rooted phones can get ota notifications as well as sms but if they download and install the ota it might brick them so it might be real tho

75% of the first 1000 phones were bricked lol? Thats nasty. That's some major screw ups right there in whatever QA they do.

There's enough anger at the fact that we don't have 2.1 yet...let alone everyone saying hey I got it, then 5 mnutes later, my phone is bricked.

- Joe

The reason for a bricking has to be the way it was deployed. I am sure that Moto would have tested the update they were deploying internally.

Root my brother, you wont regret it. You will be mad at yourself for not doing it sooner. You already seem to be reading up on it, so you are on the right track. Welcome to the dark side...

right now my only concerns are if the new 2.1 update will negate the ability to root. that would make my decision easy

I too am considering joing the darkside once I learn. However, the biggest thing I am looking for in this update is the 3.5 mm headphone jack upgrade...or whatever. Anytime I unplug something from it, the phone has no sound at all until I shut it off and restart it! Annoying, especially when using the droid as a car radio adapted through the stereo headset. Is there a rom or app that fixes this, or only the official update?

We know you guys are anxiously awaiting the upgrade from 2.0 to 2.1. Ultimately, we want to ensure you have the best possible experience on your device; as a result, the rollout is taking longer than expected. Though we don't have the new deployment date to share just yet, we do promise we are working to get you updated information and will relay it as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience. We appreciate it!about an hour ago

I noticed the problem when unplugging headphones or a cable to speakers. The sound does not return to the built-in speaker.

However, adjusting the ringer (or any other) volumn level seems to allow the speaker to be turned on again.

Feels like a bug to me. Speaker is muted when the jack is used but not unmuted when the plug is removed.

I like the current behavior of the audio stopping when the headphones are pulled out. Much more convenient than turning phone on and navigating to the widget to pause.

i don't post a lot but i lurk a lot. i gets really old getting emails/notifications about threads that i subscribe to that have nothing to do with the title.

If you guys want to talk about headphones start a new thread. quit high-jacking this thread titled "PLEASE READ: Reguarding the 2.1 Update for the Motorola Droid".

there are 373 posts and i would bet that 350 of them are off topic or from posters that just like to see there own comments in print (i'm sure they like to here themselves talk alot also).

only 23 on topic posts? try reading the thread you subscribe to to get a better feel of how/what info is being posted.

btw..there was a few comments about teh headphone jack. There a many times where topic goes off course, try to wait untill there is an extended # of posts that are off topic before getting all irritated sir/ma'am
