Please stop using task killers...

I use task killers, always have, probably always will. I have tried going without them before but my phone would start to lag really bad and even sometimes lock up.
 
To each their own. If you use you're phone a certain way, and you don't want to change the way you use it, then by all means use a task killer. It doesn't change the fact that if you are willing to take the necessary steps, they are not needed, and in fact, can make lag and battery life worse. I think we would all agree the Cyanogen and Koushik are two of the most knowledgeable people in the android community if not THE most. Both of which say task killers aren't needed. Argue with me all you wish, but I'm not arguing with them.

And I should note that this comment isn't directed at you G.Armour

He is saying not to use task killers and instead use your phone "correctly"

I guess what he means is not to use your phone as anything but a phone, no internet, no camera, nothing but phone calls. Definitely don't use it as a multi tasking device it is supposed to be and is marketed as, I don't understand why anyone would want to listen to music and web browse or play a game anyway that can be too much for some people.

I don't get what you mean by "use it correctly," I sbf'd my phone and did a factory reset to test out the lag again (just to see if it was something I was doing) and didn't download any apps. It only took about an hour of use for the phone to start lagging and all I used was the dialer and stock browser. I use autokiller same as you and have no problems but for the people who don't root and can't use autokiller a task killer is the only thing to combat the lag caused by memory settings being set too low.
 
I don't believe I've ever said that you are using your phone incorrectly. I merely gave a few tips on how to keep things that you don't want from running in the background. And I don't want any of this "back and forth" to be misinterpreted as hostility. Its simply a matter of disagreement. We are all friends here.

What was the third app you used that caused your phone to lag such that you had to kill the browser or the dialer to release memory to de-lag your phone?

From what you wrote, I would say the stock browser is a problem.
 
I usually close all the windows in the browser before I back out of it to make sure there isn't a site with a flash ad running in the background
 
I had a TK installed for about 2 days and after reading I uninstalled it. I found that some apps have to open for other things to work like they should and that if they're open they probably should be. I did the charge fix thing someone mentioned in another thread. After 25 hours, few texts and few phone calls I had 81% left. I'm good with how the OS handles it with the exception of the obvious.

Sounds like you need a replacement phone. I removed my task killer the minute I got the froyo update, and guess what.....my phone runs perfectly. I only need to reboot it like once a month. And I only do that for good measure. Remove your task killer.

Different strokes for different folks. I do what I like on my phone, same as you. Just because mine may run a little better, well that's a different story. ;)
 
Got my droid x and never installed a task killer and the phone runs perfectly. I dont have autokiller either. Mind you, that i constantly go on web browser play some games, facebook, etc, so its not like im NOT using my phone. My battery can last for 2 days as well.
 
The problem is task killers don't do their damage immediately. When you start using one, you will see a noticeable improvement in battery life and decreased lag. It's in the months after you start using it that the problems start. When you kill an app using taskiller you are not allowing the application to shut itself down properly, you are just immediately ending its process. This can (and will) cause small corruptions and errors to build up within those applications over the course of weeks of improperly killing applications. That's when you'll see programs start force closing, phones doing random reboots, battery life tanking.

Now you are obviously free to do whatever you want with your phone, but I'm also free to laugh in your face if you tell me you have phone issues and have been using ATK.
 
I never laugh in the face of my fellow Androidians. You can offer help, which they can either accept or turn down. But I take no pleasure in seeing anyone having problems with their Androids.

I'm more or less responding to the ones that have heard the warning and have dismissed it. I would never laugh in the face of someone who was just simply misinformed or didn't know better.

But as for the ones singing the praises of the short term benefits of task killers and telling those around them ATK is a must have app? Yeah, I might laugh at them when they have issues.

I've been using ATK for several months, no issues at all, phone runs great and better battery life.
 
I feel like task killers is one those topics that will never have a definitive answer. No matter what the pro-ATK or anti-ATK people say, neither side will convince the other :) they seem to work different foe everyone
 
The big question is, how are people still using them? I thought google disabled them in froyo for our own good?
 
I use task killers to kill my apps not manage them. The day apps stop hanging and glitching is the day I uninstall a task killer. Heck android has a built in task killer...what is there to debate.
 
Android shuts apps down, app killers cut them off cold. Think of it like when your pooping and your turd tapers off nice and smooth... that's how Android ends a running app. Now imagine if your turd suddenly went from full diameter to no diameter and your butthole slapped shut. Thats how an app killer ends an app.

Not very pleasant for your system.
