Root Please verify correct PC36IMG file for unroot?

Screen replaced. So far so good. I think that was it.


I was debating rooting but yea I need wl tether and I do like root uninstall. Besides root wasnt the problem at all. It was dropping it.

Ok so root to gingerbread? Hmmmm I hear its pretty fast but Ive also heard about a lot of problems. You recommend it? If so link me please. Unrevoked?

what is your hboot? if it is hboot 2.1 then use the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html. if it is 2.16 then use the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/395962-guide-rooting-gingerbread-revolutionary.html.

and yes root root. so much better then not being rooted. better battery life, we have sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 roms that are just amazing.

I was 2.1 and Im back on the train. Rooted but with the rom which unrevoked provides. Is it possible to get gingerbread with 2.1 hboot? Netflix is pretty impo to me but I think they have fixed the gingerbread/netflix compatibility issues.

do you have s-off? if so then all you have to do is flash a gingerbread rom and you are updated. try mikg2.45 a great romto try out.
 
Hi folks..... could really use some help for my particular situation. I've read thru a lot of the above posts, and although I could attempt to fix my EVO myself, I could use a bit of hand-holding to get me over the hump.

I want to unroot and clean wipe my phone. My rooting experience was so-so and just want to simplify my life a bit and stop putting too much time into my phone with all the rooting options. Just a preference, I guess.

While attempting to un-root, about a week ago, used the unrevoked-forever-son.zip, NO ISSUES. Several attempts flashing PC36IMG.zip resulted in:

"Main version is older! / Update Fail! / Do you want to reboot device? / Yes / No"

Found different PC36IMG.zip. No error as stated above, but it did NOT offer me the opportunity to accept the update. It simply placed me back into HBOOT. Here are my phone specs:

SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-2.10.001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.11.19
Oct 15 2010, 12:07:00

Unable to confirm I am fully un-rooted... and also unable to install the recent OTA upgrades.

if you are wanting to update there is no need to unroot. we have roms out that has the ota cooked in.

but if you still want to unroot then try this ruu:Free File Hosting, Online Storage &amp File Upload with FileServe. just run it on your computer and connect your phone when it tells you to.
 
I had teh same problems you are experiencing and many others are as well. I'm not sure what the problem is but I know the workaround.

In the rooting for dummies gingerbread edition guide go to the unrooting section. Download the RUU from:

you can also use this ruu:[ROM]RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.53.651.1_Radio_2.15 .00.0808_NV_2.15_release to get you the latest ota stock rom and stock recovery. just connect the phone via usb and run the exe file on your computer.

You basically just plug in your phone to your computer and run the .exe and it will do the rest for you. Just make sure your computer doesnt go asleep during this time.

It will take about 10 mins

Again, I am unrooting for several reasons. I understand the OTA's are cooked into the roms... personal preference at this time. May root again. ;)

well that is a stock but rooted ota 4.53.651.1 rom. it is what you will get when you update your phone, but it is the rooted version. now that you are unrooted, you can just update your phone to get it.

If you have not been able to get an RUU to run then you are not completely unrooted. With your hboot, I believe you could flash unrevoked forever from recovery to get s-off again if you chose to. I believe what Ocn is getting at is that you can flash the current rooted rom(stock rom with Superuser and Busybox added for root app use) and you would be up to date with nand unlocked in the case that you decide to root later. If you unroot and accept the OTA, there could at some point in the future be another OTA and it might not be rootable. The idea with what we are talking about is to prevent the possibility of you not being able to root if you chose to at some point.

Here is the RUU for 3.70 run from the pc.

Here is the RUU in PC36IMG form for 3.70.

I have used the PC36IMG in the past and it worked. Give these a shot if you are still partially rooted and want to finish unrooting.

well the PC36IMG file linked in xtreme's post is also a ruu. so if you have s-on and a stock recovery (you get a red triangle when trying to get to recovery), then you are good to go.

I believe I am good to go; last night I flashed the RUU 4.53.651.1 (etc, etc) and everything went smooth.

One observation -- I expected the entire simm card to be wiped clean with the fresh image. This was not 100% the case, as my personal items (wallpapers, camera shots, etc. which I had saved to my laptop) were all still intact.

Flashing the RUU will not touch your sdcard. It replaces the Rom and Recovery with the stock items. You would need to wipe you sdcard or at least remove the traces of rooted items from it if you were concerned about Sprint finding out it had been rooted.

Just copy the contents to your pc and format your sdcard. All of the stuff your system needs is included in the rom. Everything on the sdcard is optional.
