The title says it all. I know there are hundreds (or more) of these out there already, and about the only way mine would be different is I would explain the exact method I use in making a theme. I know a few people in our small community have asked for a theming guide, though, so if enough are interested, I'm willing to donate my time to just that. :)

EDIT: Just as an example of the level of detail, check out the guide I wrote here shortly before Megatron's release. ;)

Only 4 votes so far? where'd everybody go? :p

Also, if you voted "Yes", reply below if there is a specific topic you would like me to focus on.

maybe you could do something on theming apps like general guide..

those who vote no i say should say why they wouldnt wanna a guide id like to hear the reasoning lol

Agreed, though no one has voted no so far. However, I imagine most "No" responses will be something along the lines of "No, because it's already been done a bazillion times". :p

I'd like to see a guide about the things UOT Kitchen and Rom Toolbox can't change on this phone. There's plenty of guides how to use those but some stuff doesn't work on this phone.

I'm more interested in a How-ToTheme the signal bars and changing the settings, background. i know there plenty of guides and videos for themeing manually but pretty confusing for me, as well as katracho's guide for the settings background a step by step How-To and tools used will be awesome...

Btw on the votes part, you won't get many since there is many ppl on this forum that aren't registered and won't even register to say thank you to a dev or anyone addressing an issue they may have as well, many just follow directions ,download, and go. You know who you are since you don't give them a penny for their work and countless hours spend on the development @ least click the Thanks button in appreciation for their hard work and making our phones better ...

So judging by the comments so far, it seems everyone is interested in a manual-theming guide. I think I'll still include a section on using UOT, but only on how to get started (uploading files) and where to go after, since those were the two areas that stumped me my first time using The Kitchen.

As for not getting a lot of responses, I wasn't expecting many to begin with, since the community for our phones numbers about 15-20 dedicated souls, if I had to guess. However, this guide will be quite the undertaking, and I didn't want to dedicate my time to such a project if only one or two people were inteested. Likewise, if there had been a greater number of nay-sayers, I don't think they would appreciate me wasting space on the forums. :p

Oh, before I forget, the deadline for the voting says Saturday the 20th at about 10pm MDT, but I'm actually gonna cut it off (with a mod's help) sometime Friday evening when I get home from work, because I'll need to get the guide going at that time (if current trend continues, and that turns out to be the popular demand ;) ).

be nice to get some details on editing /adding options to existing menu's i know how to edit values and strings and get the id's and so on but i am working on a project now and i am having difficulty's with the android.policy.jar edit..so i guess what i would like to see is a more advanced tut on themeing adding stuff that's not there to begin with.. something other then simple color or image swaps.. now that would be great

I would like to add that, too, but you're starting to get into modding and devving territory there. Also, other than adding the system background, I admittedly haven't done much in the way of theming by code editing.

Well folks, the results are in, and except for one smart-alleck who has decided to remain anonymous :p , enough people have shown interest in the guide for me to feel confident that it will be put to good use.

Now, I admit that I still have a lot to learn myself, and even then, there's truckloads of information to go over, so the guide WILL have holes. I'm not sure quite yet how I want to organize the thread when I create it, but I'm a big believer in the K.I.S.S. philosophy (Keep It Simple, Stupid, for those who don't know), and as such, will try to make it as straight-forward as possible. Just as a preview of what's to come, here's the topics I plan on covering:

-Getting started with UOT kitchen (what to do to get your theme rolling)
-What to do/where to go in UOT when your theme is finished
-Unpacking your theme for editing
-Editing the theme's image files using GIMP (including .9 PNGs)
-Changing the default wallpaper/adding a system background
-Buttoning up your theme (putting everything back together, and getting it ready for submission)
-Publishing your work (how to let others enjoy your work)

As you can see, it'll pretty much be an all-in-one (or "all of my knowledge"-in-one, to be more exact) guide for making a theme. Given the scope of everything I plan on covering, I can't give a definitive timeline on when to expect it, but I promise to have it out as soon as I am able. I'm hoping that despite the size, I'll be able to have it out before the weekend's over, but please forgive me if it's not out until a few weeks from now. Also, while I'm at it, I apologize in advance if I step on any toes, or cover information that's already available, even in this sub-forum. In the effort of keeping things simple, there will be topics or steps in the guide that will have already been covered by others in our community. I'm not trying to steal anyone's thunder, I'm just trying to help those who want to get their hands dirty with theming a one-stop shopping experience with what to do, and how to get there with the highest chance for success.

(...How I do blather on sometimes. :p ) Anyway, Thank you to everyone who participated in the voting. :D For those who made special requests, I will do my best to make sure I go over the topics you specified, and you can expect your name in the Thanks and Recognition section (what I like to dub the "Wall of Glory"). ;)
