POP3 Email Setup - Charter

Wonderful information here! I have been working with Charter for days now and they don't have an answer as to why their settings don't work so I did a search today and found this information which works immediately! Thanks so much, maybe you should be a consultant for Charter :-)

TRY THIS LINK ON THE MOTOROLA SITE: https://motorola-global-en-usa.cust...detail/a_id/48587/~/droid---charter.net-email

I too, was having all types of troubles setting up my charter email. This totally solved my problem. Scroll down to the bottom of the above article and all of the ports, incoming and outgoing info is there. :p I also turned off wi-fi and used 3G instead when setting up my account. Motorola said some cable companies don't allow the use of wi-fi when setting up these email accounts. I figured it could not hurt to try, and it worked! Now, my desktop Outlook with charter WILL freeze up on task 3 of four, BUT I figured out that as soon as you close the email on your phone, it releases the account on the computer, and everything downloads just like normal. It sucks, but there IS a workaround. Just make sure to get out of the email app. and you will not have a problem with the desktop account freezing up!

Hey thanks for the help but a side note... Those of you that are still having issues use KREES instructions but instead of using mail.charterinternet.com use the .net on the end instead it will work if you had troubles with the .com

Have Charter, and Windows Live Mail. Had the same problems as outlined in this thread. Tried everything suggested, but the only thing that worked for me was to follow the suggestions of Coastal_Carolina and deleted the POP3 account on the computer, and made a new account with the same e-mail address using IMAP settings. Seems to be working fine for me now. Thanks Coastal_Carolina :D

I recently purchased an HTC Incredible. I attempted to set up email for my Charter acct on the phone. AFter spending too many hours to count, and calling the Verizon help staff; I finally came upon this response. Use the settings from the prior post if you have the Incredible and are using Charter as your ISP.

Thanks

I have a droid x and here is my problem. The message states account is in use i am guessing the droid is blocking the outlook express from connecting. I receive emails with no problem if i go to a charter email web page but some emails reply throught office wich i like. Now everytime i try to recieve on my pc it wont accept my password PLZ how can i get around this. Thank you for any help i get

So, your information helped me....wish I would have seen it sooner. Finally, outlook and phone are not competing with each other. However, I did use your settings and I am receiving emails, I can not send...any suggestions?

I like you have spent MANY hours between charter & ATT with no luck and most people not understanding (or really caring) about the problem.

Thank you so much kramerica!! Now I can check my Charter email on both my Samsung phone and on my home computer. Neither the Sprint nor Charter people could help me, they both said it couldn't be done. This was the one thing bugging me about my new phone but I've tested these settings and everything works great! Thank you!

I have a DroidX and a Macbook using MS Entourage. After 4 days, it finally all works!
Charter Mac Settings:

Port: 143
Sending mail:
SMPT server: smpt.charter.net
Port: 25
Do not select SSL or encryption or anything in the pull downs.

DroidX Settings:
Incoming, Select IMAP
IMAP Server: mobile.charter.net

check both "secure conn." and "Verify...."

After spending 3 days trying to set up my pop3 account, I came across this thread.

I was able to do INCOMING but the OUTGOING was giving me constant errors. I tried everything imaginable except one thing.

"I also turned off wi-fi and used 3G instead when setting up my account."

Thanks shopchops, if I only knew it was that simple, I nearly tossed my phone out the window.

1st off, I was having a massive problem setting up my Charter Email Account. Error was on the Outgoing portion and it was getting frustrating.

2nd, after searching a few forums, I found this on a Verizon forum and want to make sure that Beetle from that forum gets proper credit that fixed my problem (as it is massively different that what the instructions and troubleshooting did). If he got it from somewhere else, I apologize, but he got me what I needed so I give him the credit.

Here are the instructions and if you follow them to the letter, you will solve your Charter email problem and get the POP3 email setup properly:

"IGNORE what Charter said the address is for Incoming and Outbound. pop.charter.net and smtp.charter.net will ONLY allow you to RECEIVE, when you try to compose, reply, reply all, forward, you will get a error, and it will NOT go out.

the correct settings should be:

Mail Type: POP
Incoming Mail Server: mail.charterinternet.com
Username: myusername@charter.net (first part of your email address DO NOT omit the @charter.net)
Password: whatever the password is to access the charter email account
Port: 110
Encryption: None

Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.charterinternet.com
Authentication: ON
Username: myusername@charter.net (first part of your email address DO NOT omit the @charter.net)
Password: whatever the password is to access the charter email account
Port: 25
Encryption: none"

I got this to work on my Droid, so again, I couldn't be more grateful and hope this helps with those having similar troubles.
Have talked to everyone from Charter, Verizon and Motorola. You are the only real help I have been able to find, can now send e-mails. Thank so much for you post.

Wow. How can this be so hard?? First off, let me say that the instructions on Charter's site http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/15110-pop3-email-setup-charter-2.html#post2603491 worked perfectly for me on my HTC Inspire. However, they do not work for my wife's account on the exact same phone that we bought together at the same time! Unfortunately, nothing else on this site has worked either. The really weird part is that BOTH of them were working until yesterday when suddenly both quit working. Now, I've mananged to restore mine...but not hers.

Surprised that the sprint sales rep couldn't walk me through this but was quick to acknowledge that they have issues with charter and evo. Tried my own attempts without avail. Thanks for the help. New to forum and Evo. Love it so far.

Thank you so much - after an hour in the Verizon store and 30 minute online chat with Charter to no avail this is how I was able to fix!

I got talked with Charter they say IMAP settings are..
- SSL : This setting should be on for both SMTP and IMAP

- SMTP: mobile.charter.net:587

- IMAP: mobile.charter.net:993 21:54

But where do the " 21:54" go???

I have outlook to get my email on the pc with pop3 But I get this error on receiving...

Receiving' reported error (0x8004210E) : 'Your mailbox is temporarily unavailable because another e-mail message is being delivered to it or another mail application is accessing it. The server responded: -ERR [IN-USE] account is locked by another session or for maintenance, try again.'

I use Maildroid on the Samsung intercept 2.2 update

I'm sorry I had not monitored this thread in forever so I suck and am ashamed. As for the trouble, wow. The instructions above were specific to gmail only and again I should have been more specific. I have also never used Maildroid but can't imagine that if it uses the POP settings it shouldn't be that different but obviously something is up. Did you get this resolved?

No I didn't

Which application are you having trouble with? Outlook (with Charter) on Windows or Maildroid?

1. Ok, so you are running Maildroid? What version?
2. What version of Windows and Outlook are you using?
3. When you do the set up on Maildroid, are you choosing Auto or Manual?

If you are having trouble with Outlook on Windows with Charter, I do have different settings on my Charter account when I upgraded to Office 2007. Just trying to figure out what application you are getting an error from (again, Outlook or Maildroid).

I am using Office 2007 on my PC with Charter mail as POP/SMTP. My Droid X's Charter email was setup as IMAP. Always get the "locked out, busy error" message from Office Outlook on the PC. The only way I've found to receive email on the PC is to remove the Charter account from the Droid X. If your mail is working, will you please post up your PC and mobile account settings. I do recall my mobile account is 'mobile.charter.net'.

What's frustrating is I had it all working at one time while using "Outlook Express" and Droid with gmail.

Am using "Windows Live Mail 2011" with Windows 7 on the laptop and having the same 'locked up, in use' error... only cure is to remove the account from Droid X.

I'm not entirely 100% sure, but I think the largest issue is IMAP with Charter. From what I remember, it doesn't play nice, but I know I chose the POP3 setup because of the massive amount of issues I was having in that setup. Anywho, my setup is POP3 on charter and here are my mail account settings.

Now when you go to set up your Maildroid, you can choose automatic as long as you know your username and password.

May I recommend this method 1st to see if we can isolate this down to a Charter issue or an IMAP/POP3 issue? Then go from there?

Also, I'm sorry for the late replies. My automatic email notification seems to work on every thread I'm subscribed to except this one.
