Root (Port) Behold 2 1.6 ( No Twiz w/ Busybox & Rooted Kernel )

I had this rom on but went back to stock 1.6 because of a problem I was having but I have found that it was not the rom and now want to back to this do I flash the boot/phone file?

Just started having an issue about the dialer/phone FC when trying to use bluetooth and entering additional numbers after the initial phone call. Reboot and re-flash does not solve the issue. Any ideas?

Same way you did it the first time. Put the files in ODIN and re-flash. Nice thing about ODIN Flashing: You can go back and forth as much as you want, since if you've done it one time, it never really changes ;->

Nice and easy!

Maybe its just coincidence, but has anyone found that it takes a long time for GPS to determine your location when using Google Navigator?

I'm a new user to a Samsung BEHOLD 2. Since I've been reading soo many threads in this forum and trying them often, those made me very confused and frustrated. I've used firmaware 1.6 with/without touchwiz and galaxy 1.6 using odin multi downloader with no problem. But each an every rom gave me soo many bugs and none of them are functioning well. I got errors when opening PDF and Office files and in 1.6 when using contacts and call waiting. Also some firmware camera is malfunctioning. Also while downloading I gets a message 'Download Unsuccessful'. And I'm so confused of what you call ADB push or something. I don't know anything of it.

So can somebody plaese look into this matter and suggest me a fair detail of those things and the best rom we have for today and all the bug fixes with fair explanation. Also this battery issue and best solution. I would be much greatful if somebody aware of these things can tell me all in detail so than anybody new can also understand.

Thanks in advance.

If you want the good Behold 2 camera software, you will need to use either the Factory 1.6 firmware from this thread, or bh_man's Take5 rom. If you search the forum for Take5 you should find it. As for the battery issue, there are a couple of other threads that would be better places to ask about that. I would recommend using bh_man's batterystats.bin file, you can find more informations elsewhere.

I would suggest you just work through the issues one at a time in whichever thread seems most appropriate for that problem. Really, somebody has already had just about every possible problem already, and if you look hard enough they've already posted the solution.

I have not tried all of the ROMs available, so I cannot say which is better than the other. However, I have been running the factory 1.6 with Twiz. Once I installed a2sd and the batterstats.bin file, I have had no problems (good battery life, no FC other than known issues, fast, etc). It is a very solid phone -- I'm completely happy with it now (was not at first).

Hope that helps.

I have this phone sim locked to T-mobile and I want to use it in Europe. Tried 2 online unlockers and they cant give me a code. Any chance it will unlock if I flash with phone part of ROM?

ok this is the issue if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
Whenever I load up Titanium backup it tells me that I do not have root access, but I knok BH_Man rooted thi rom so any idea as to what I am missing?

Another thing to report whenever I hold the power button and go shutdown it shutsdown but then restarts with out me pressing anything. Anyone else have that issue?

Titanium Backup works perfectly on mine but the reboot thing happens but only when its plugged in my computer

The prob I am running into is that I lose root after I restart the phone. I follow BH_Man instructions at the very top as soon as Im done flashing before I redownload my apps and everything. I have root after I flash but lose it after any kind of reboot. About to try odin again and installing Titanium first see if that helps

on another note I have changed all my fonts on my phone to ones I got from the internet but only issue is one font is smaller than I'd like any ideas how to make it a size or two bigger? I have found spare parts app makes it slightly bigger but just barely.

I am having the same problem with Titanium backup. Couldn't solve it with my knowledge. Let me know if you find anything.

ok the weirdest thing happened root works now. I decided for s&g to retry it and I opened op the term app and su and it went right to it and now Ti works too only thing I did was adb push some fonts ohhh wait I did adb reboot once to maby it will stick this time

Hopefully somebody can help me with this.... I've flashed the phone with Take5, and absolutely love it.... BUT.... for some reason there's no root.... root apps don't seem to work, permission denied messages, type su from terminal and it gives "permission denied"

So, is there something I need to do to enable root after flashing the Take5 image?

Help? Anyone?

On another note... BH_MAN... any chance of adding support for netfilter/iptables to the kernel so that apps like android-wifi-tether will work? Once I have my root problem solved of course.

Thanks

Ok as far as the root problem goes on this phone it loses root alot and it has been discussed but ill fill you in. To me it seems as if root applications arent being used then root will just shut down but i have noticed that installing autokiller tends to keep root on the phone longer since it runs often to kill tasks but only set on the "Extreme" setting.

But anyway to get root back if you lost it
1. Reboot phone and you have root. You can do this whenever you lose root and it will come back

or

2. Connect your phone while its on to a computer and open up command prompt and type

cd\
cd C:\androidsdk\tools (or whatever you have your folder named ex:
AndroidSDK, Android, etc.)
adb devices (make sure your phone says connected and online. If it
says offline unplug and replug)
adb shell
su (you should get a # if you dont then try rebooting phone or try
another usb port)
chmod 04755 /system/bin/sh (you should get a line that displays the
exact same text you just typed)
chmod 04755 /system/bin/su (you should get a line that displays the
exact same text you just typed)
exit
exit
exit

Now your root apps should run

As far as the netfilter/iptables error goes. That will not be fixed unless samsung releases the drivers for their phones. Which prolly wont happen anytime soon. If you search google for the HTC drivers and im not talking about the usb drivers they are drivers for your phone. HTC releases all of their drivers as far as I know thats why more people root HTC phones faster .

Thank you that worked... I got root back with a simple reboot....

And the info about wifi tethering was helpful..... no chance for iptables support... so that rules out some options.... however, I've been looking at barnacle, which sets up an ad-hoc wifi tether..... without the need for iptables or any type of modified kernel, just needs root.... I installed it, and it seems to work (my laptop can see the ad-hoc network at least)... but doesn't pull an ip address :(

Has anyone managed to get barnacle working correctly under Take5?

Would it be far fetched for me to assume that if we accept the official 1.6 upgrade being sent OTA that it will probably be a one way direction since it could render the firmware incompatible with Take5? I'm wondering if its going to have any fixes that BH_Man's custom one didn't address, but since BH_Man is now 3GS_Man I don't think there is anyone around who could update Take5.

Azuretech - same problem - I'm seeing the same thing as you. I haven't been able to get barnacle work - even tried the Galaxy ROM.
