Root Porting ClockWorkMod to the Kyocera Rise

can someone please point me twords a copy of the factory boost mobile system folder my hydro wont call out and 3g will not work

Doubt this is useful to us but in my researching cwm recoverys for our phone or anything i found this on the playstore idk exactly how it works but it sounds like its a way to have 2 recovery images on phone they dont list our model ofcourse but is this a option for us? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.wkpark.android.bootstrapper

Perhaps if Kyocera's allowed to let users and indie devs unlock the boot loader? I'd say not a chance, unless someone out there has a phone to spare for something like this just for trying this out. Anyone out there have one?

Nope doesnt work i was given a kyocera rise so that i may unlock the bootloader and/or find a way to get the spc so far all i know is a custom recovery may be flashed with flash_image or find a way to store it in the memory somehow and not conflict with the bootloader

So far i think the device has an internal block i cant open it up those screws are tight lol
I think someone needs to first get fastboot to work or get a recovery working then thinks might happen

To get those we would have to unlock the bootloader..... right?

Correct. The bootloader is locked so we can't enable fastboot even to "fastboot boot" a recovery image. Apparently the Canadian version of the Rise can do that, but it doesn't help since the bootloader is still locked for them too.

Correctomondo....lol... I'm trying to find a way to flash a boot img on to my rise since it won't boot anymore.... and using Linux I can find the device but how would I get the terminal to communicate with the phone I'm not sure yet.... anyone got any ideas?

i know its possible to flash a recovery through the terminal on the phone itself using flash_image i done it before on a phone just wonder how did they stop the command adb reboot bootloader from working it works on other phones with locked bootloaders virginmobile is sneaky

Probably a s simple as one line of code in the adbd source before the built Android for the device.

I wonder if they were that lazy...

probably along the lines of secure_boot=1, which would pretty much lock it down. Somebody on the hydro forums posted some information about mismatched addresses, but i've ruled it out with some testing. However, i've narrowed it down to a signature at the beginning and at the end of the file. the first is 20 bits(???), the second is 256 bits(sha256?), and not every character has an ascii counterpart. -_- this is probably some hash system cooked up by kyocera to prevent unauthorized booting.

You guys misunderstood me... I know how to flash with adb but my phone doesn't boot since my last experiment and I've been trying to use the only connection type i have which is the dload mode that you get when plugging the phone in while is off. i'm trying to get it to read like a block device to i can flash the stock boot image back...

A request to Virgin Mobile has been promptly shot down.

"We are really sorry for this. Unfortunately, Virgin Mobile does not
provide access to the bootloader. It is part of the Virgin Mobile USA's
policy to not provide access to those type of modifications.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused."

that does suck but no need to give up i am going to give it a try i really dont have much time with school , work and most of my programming skills are on windows and dos just learning linux but i will see if i can make a recovery img to flash that gives us at least update without messing up the bootloader i know you can delete all cache from recovery using a program called recovery executor i think lol dont have it on my right now anyways maybe that helps someone i am going do more research on that just to maybe override everything cause it looks like the didnt lock everything down just didnt give us the options in the crappy recovery

was looking around idk if it would support our phone or not its fairly new but allows too make complete nandroid backups without being in recovery and shutting off the phone , so i was wondering iam not all that great at adb and copying a whole phone basically back over a phone if the image was downloaded from wherever your nandroid was backuped too without reboot but , would this be helpful for us takeing more risk? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup

iam basically hopeing this will stop the android pros from bricking there phones or allowing them too repair them too continue there work for us noobs

I was wondering about that app. Might be good. But I don't know about taking more risk. If we get stuck in a bootloop how would we restore the backup without running the app or without adb in recovery

thats a good question cause i tried adb when in a bootloop and it was on and off connecting disconnecting so ud have too be quick too flash recovery back over too the phone if that was even possiable ill look more the developer left info on that googleplay link to more info about the app & link to details about it maybe they have thought of this b4 & thats a reason for the development of the app, but the bootloop of death does suck , but maybe , someone like smartmanvartan who has a canadian rise thats already bricked phone can buy a new one of his rise try it out and return it unactivated before the return policy is up or has a friend with one of his phones to try too test, just ideals dunno/ just putting anything in that might lead someone with more knowlege in the right direction

Like i said, it might be a lot more efficient to get a list of people willing to donate and hire a dev at xda to work on it. No disrespect to those here who are currently working on it, but no one seems to be getting anywhere. Personally, i have no experience in these matters or I'd try my luck messing with it, but from reading this thread (quite psychotically ) the project seems to be stuck in neutral. Being that it's not a very popular phone (and it's doubtful that it will ever be) there's not going to be a lot of demand for the bootloader to be unlocked in the first place.

I have a hydro, it's a great phone, and i would love to be able to overclock and slap CM on it, i just don't see it happening anytime soon with what we are working with as far as demand and community. i would like nothing more than to be proven wrong, so by all means.

That is definitely a good idea, need a trusting person to open a funding site thats reputable to collect the funds & make the transfer of funds when cracks instead of bricking our phones if a moderator from AF did this I would donate, so that plus the people we have here working on it. Is definitely a plan,

EDIT: Nevermind, found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211216

Hey guys,
I was poking around mmcblk0p1.img in c5156.zip
I mounted it as type vfat, and found AMSS.MDN under the image/ directory

$ file AMSS.MBN
AMSS.MBN: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, ARM, version 1, statically linked, corrupted section header size

I did a Google search on this filename and it seems to be the bootloader executable. The file name is common across many phones apparently. It's possible there *might* be the source to this type of bootloader somewhere...
Or we could get an expert in ARM assembly and see if they can do something with it. :P
Also this executable doesn't seem to be encrypted either.

Hmm considering I have no knowledge in coding or anything related to the cause. I can maybe help in another way. I know a few people here and there and this could turn to be helpful If I just happen to know the right person

Could anyone answer these? It would help me know what i'm talking about before I start asking around.

- When phones are purchased from a supplier by a carrier, who is in charge of flashing the carrier's rom to the phone? Is it done by the supplier (kyocera) or the carrier (VM,PM etc)?
- What type of software is used in that procedure? (technical name and possible names)
- What is the title of the employee responsible for such operation?

If you have any more info that is related please provide it in your post or p.m. me.

Many thanks!

Has anyone tried flashing the recovery with Odin3? If not someone link me the recovery zipped in a .tar and I'll try it since I no longer use this phone as my daily driver
