Root Porting ClockWorkMod to the Kyocera Rise

How come i didn't get the update yet? I live in the u.s. In Maryland how come i don't have update and also what does it do? Unlock bootloader?!?!

It's looking like it detects root and errors out. As far as I know there's no way to un-root yet. I don't think it's a Jelly bean update if that's what some are hoping, but I could be wrong. Currently uploading the contents of the delta folder to MediaFire.

OTA RootKeeper, make a root backup and then do a temp unroot and try again maybe.

$ xdelta info boot_delta.bin
xdelta: boot_delta.bin: bad magic number: not a valid delta

Well, that's about the extent of my help. Sorry.

If it is just a binary diff though, then any changes we made to /system would make android_delta.bin fail to install if it's expecting a precise arrangement of files.

Tried that and it still errors out. I do have some stock apps removed though so will restore everything from Titanium Backup and try again.

That may not help if it's trying to apply a patch to the partition itself, the files will be out of order compared to untouched stock. Please do try though, I could be wrong and kind of hope I am.

Couldn't we just call or email kyocera to see what the update is for. I would be willing to but at this time of night I'm pretty they're closed..... right?

Already figured that, but thought it wouldn't hurt to try. Didn't work though.

Someone with more skill than I should pull apart the Kyocera updater apk and see just exactly what it does with these files. They reference that package.

(open a couple in a hex editor until you see com.Kyocera)

just a guess but iam thinking one of us with money will have too buy a new unaltered rise get the update root it and make a recovery for us too flash after the make a cwm recovery for us if thats the update we needed that allows us to finally do these kind of things to our phone

I have like 4 of these things. If anyone wants me to try something (I'm not seeing an update on the two I have unboxed yet) that won't possibly brick them, I'm down.

If the hydro got it, I'll check it out, mine hasnt been altered. I highly doubt that the update unlocks anything. But if some reason it did. I will let you know

I got an update for the kyocera rise. It deleted all my apps and stuff but the phone is more responsive very well made. Not the jellybean update though. But still good :)

Alright, I'll try to tackle your questions.

So, how do i get the update? I hit the update option but it tells me that there is no software/firmware update available.
This is what most of us are getting. It's obviously a rolling update. What it changes, we don't know yet at this point.

Also, can anyone tell me a way to stop apps from running in the background when I am not using them? My phones memory keeps going down to about 50mb from about 150mb, so my phone gets slow and choppy. There are alot of apps that just run in the background when I don't use them (facebook, google maps, yahoomail, etc) that just eat up my phones memory. Every time i use the advanced task manager to turn them off, they immediately pop back up. Since my phone is rooted, is there a way to turn that off, or stop them from doing that?
Well, that's just Android, but you can help alleviate it be making sure you are _always_ backing out of the apps with the back button, not the home button. There are some battery saving apps people recommend that help limit this too, but I can't recall them off the top of my head.

You can download both depending on what computer you are on. I was wondering if you could install both and boot them to your phone. My thing is if you can, can you go back and do another one after root has already been established? Or will it make your phone a nice weapon to throw through someone's window?
I had already downloaded the 64bit driver to my phone. On windows (7?) i think that you can download both, but what if you only used one to root your phone? Does it matter which one you use? Can you boot both to your phone? if so. would it make anything different?
As far as I am aware, 32 bit drivers will not install on 64 bit systems. This is why you need 64 bit drivers in the first place. Also, they won't do anything different from each other because they are essentially the same driver, just built for different architectures.

Has anyone noticed that they can overlap their homescreen widgets/shortcuts? when you do this and select them, it gives you the option to pick which app you want to use. I accidentally dragged an app and placed it in the same spot as another app. It does not get rid of either of them, but rather split the apps by overlapping the two images.
What you are doing is creating a folder. The apps get placed into a folder when you place them on top of each other.

Note for the future, editing your posts is better than reposting a bunch of times.

See if the recovery has changed or get a app to boot in to boot loaded and let us know if it has any hidden extras or something lol

Just a thought: Has anyone who is rooted and trying to install the update tried to do a factory reset then try the update?

Is anybody rooted but hasn't made changes to their system?

Well, technically rooted = changes to the system. Aside from that, I've just added an app to /system/app, changed the egl file, and modified my keylayout so my camera button functions as a search button. (Gives access to keyboard shortcuts!)

I'm sure I could easily remove all the extra files, not including root files. As for the root files, have we decided how to successfully unroot completely?
