Root Porting ClockWorkMod to the Kyocera Rise

hmm is there any other phone besides the hydro and event that have the snapdragon 8655 processor and/or kernel version 3.0.8 perf?

The kernel version doesn't do us much good, even if there were phones with a 3.0.8-pref kernel, it doesn't mean the code is compatible with our phone. As for the 8x55 (8255 and 8655, pretty much kernel compatible) was quite a popular low end SoC in it's day, it's heavily based off of the 7x30 which was used in a lot of phones. Unfortunitly the popularity of our SoC so far hasn't really helped us much in finding compatible exploits. By the time the rise came out, it was pretty much common knowledge about how exploits for the SoC worked and they pretty much blocked us from being able to do much without fastboot working properly or at all on certain models

As for a list of phones, wikipedia has a decent list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)#Snapdragon_S2

i have something to ask. ik the bootloader can be unlocked. a lot of ppl who had the rise stated they unlocked the bootloader. now the bootloader and kernel isnt the problem here. its the formost extra security embedded in the phone. now lets say if anyone can reverse engineer the phones security on here, that would be great to disable the firmwares checks. now how would companies install extra security on their devices? where would they set it at? and how would they go about it?

I think it would be set in its own partition, but could be a int.d script, or the boot partition. Or even multiple partitions.

true. but does this give an idea for ppl who have this phone to find the security within the phone? i just wonder where these companies put such a file for the security

Welcome to the forums!

EZ Unlock is for the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Never experiment with root or bootloader tools not made for your specific phone model. Bricks are expensive and sad.

Also, please avoid direct downloads. A link to the actual source is more helpful, like this -

http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32456-app-920-ez-unlock-14-easiest-way-to-unlock-your-bootloader/

When referring to XDA downloads, please refer to the thread or post, not just the download.

Safe rooting is happy rooting.

im out of ideas on this. seems kyocera wants their devices to fail then i mean not man y ppl buy them for talking but for developing. and since kyocera doesnt want to comply they wont last much with the phone business

When there's a will, theres a way:D, We just have to figure out that way. This was previously mentioned, but if everybody in this thread contacts kyocera (preferably by chat so you get a quick response), eventually they will comply

So, the partitions on the C5155 and C5156 are slightly different, but this thread has both check post #1 and #9

Most of us have tried contacting Kyocera. They only think of it as carrier unlock, or they say that it will violate there contract with X carrier and that they aren't like other manufactures.

Ok i have a c5156 cause Im on PM, so ill contact Kyocera and Pm and explain... The issue just needs to get escalated to corporate because their the only ones that (hopefully) knows what this means.

Convesation with Kyocera Technical Support

Ruben J: Thank you for contacting Kyocera technical support. How may I help you today?
You: hello
You: i was wondering if the bootloader for the rise will ever be unlocked
Ruben J: The bootloader?
Ruben J: That is an application for when the phone is rooted, correct?
You: the bootloader is the partition of which the phone is booted from. this is where developers could install custom ROMs to unleash the full potential of the Rises great hardware
Ruben J: Yes, But this can only be used when the phone is rooted, And this is a procedure that we don't recommend because it may damage the phone, So we don't provide assistance with this kind of procedures. We apologize for this inconvenience.
You: I am not concerned about the warranty... This phone runs the same hardware as many high end phones, so the amount of devs who would buy this phone for development purposes would boost sales of the phone
You: this is a great oppurtunity
Ruben J: You are talking about the Hardware (Physical part of the phone) Or about the Software (The Operative System of the phone) ???
You: the bootloader is software, but the snapdragon qualcomm processor is great and is found on many high end phones
Ruben J: Yes, That's correct. But the difference is at the capacity of the processor capacity, On the high end phones for example the snapdragon processor is dual core and superior to 1.4GHz
Ruben J: Remember that this phone is using 1GHz with only 1 core processor.
Ruben J: But at this point, About your question for the bootloader, I Want to apologize but we don't have this information because as I mentioned before, This kind of procedures may damage your phone, So we don't provide this kind of instructions.
You: thank you for your time... if you wouldnt mind, could you pass along the message that there is a growing number of people that are trying to get the bootloader to be unlopcked. we are hoping that with a strong push, it may be released for development purposes (like HTC). as i mentioned, this would be a great boost
Ruben J: Don't worry, All this conversation is being recorded and will be stored in our data base.
Ruben J: Is there anything else that I can assist you with today?
You: No that is all. Enjoy your day
Ruben J: Then I just want to thank you for contacting Kyocera, if there is anything else we can assist you with, please feel free to contact us again. Have a wonderful day! Please click this link: Kyocera Chat Support Feedback for Ruben J Survey and it will only take you one minute to answer the 3-question survey to rate me on how I assisted you today.
You: thank you

Use the link, fill in whatever but for #3 put unlock bootloader

what other method is there to do? i really like to see cwm on these phones to escape brickedness. has kyocera heard of cwm at all?

Judging by my convo, they barely even know what the bootloader is. Somebody needs to call them because that way they can put the call through to Corporate office, because they are the only ones who can make the descision to unlock... we just need to spam them with calls. I too, would love to see cwm on this phone.

Well how does a company make a phone without actually knowing what certain functions of the phone can do. To me it seems like they didn't know what they are doing with building the infrastructure of the phone itself. Many other companies know what these things do. But they don't. They built the phone without studying what the phone does.

like I said we actually need to call them and get it too head office.

The other option is edit the bootloader, or use adb somehow...

remember if you do try you could end up with a brick. and the extra security we cant even find in these phones. i wonder how these companies add security to these phones. if i knew how they did that then i could say something more on this. its not like we can build a bootloader from the ground up and flash it with adb

If somebody feels ballsy they could overwrite the bootloader partition with another bootloader and pray to the tech gods it somehow manages to start up. Im running out of ideas.

ik how you feel. its just the security thats the true problem. we have root and can do what we need it to do. we just need to find someway to decrypt the security whych no one has found yet.

just got an email from kyocera and this is what they said:

Let me share you a little piece of information that most of our customers does not know. The main reason on why we don't provide the codes to unlock the bootloader of the phone are that we as agents, we don't have access to that information at all in our system, and the other main reason is that we only manufacture the phones based on what the service providers request the phone to be.

So, unfortunately I am not going to be able to assist you with the unlocking part for the bootloader on the phone.

how can we go about this with the bootloader if they dont have that type of info in their computers or is it another run around?
