Positioning the cursor without keyboard?

Is there a replacement keyboard that has a way to position the cursor without sliding out the useless physical keyboard? I despise the keyboard and would never slide it out if there were another way to move the cursor around.

I wish I liked the Incredible, but I don't. I would pay retail for a Droid without the keyboard and with the cursor function of the Incredible.

It is unfortunate that you feel that way about the physical keyboard - personally, I would never consider owning a smartphone without one.

Uber Keyboard has the functionality of the D-Pad if you press and hold the "Enter" button. It's a paid app, but it has several other cool features, too.

Swype also has a special "editing keyboard" function that allows you to position the cursor, cut, copy, paste, and delete text.

When you are typing and want to position the cursor, go to the text area and touch where you want the cursor to be. For instance, if you had forgotten the space between the words "the" and "Incredible", touch the screen after the letter "E". It takes a little practice, but it works.

Well, I feel stupid now (not the first time). I've been using Smart Keyboard Pro and after going to their web site, I now know that the function is there I just didn't know it.

Now I never have to slide out the keyboard again!

The physical keyboard might as well not exisit to me. So, it's been annoying for me having to manually place the cursor with my finger. Perhaps I need to download one of these keyboards to make life easier. Google really needs a solution for this issue.

I agree, I wish Motorola would introduce a Droid with no physical keyboard.

If you're rooted, the HTC_IME keyboard mod has a tweak that allows customization of volume buttom key behavior and swipe behavior...among other things, you can set this to move the cursor.
