Root Possible Full OTA 2.2 SBF

I've looked around, and didn't see anyone state this.

I was rooted, leaked 2.3.13, renamed a few apps(blockbuster, cityid) had the star wars lockscreen, modded build.prop, nothing major. I backed up(titanium backup, Launcher pro backup, SMS backup and restore). I just ran the 2.2 sbf. I wanted to be ready for the fixes coming down the road. It ran fine with the 4.8 rdslite, 4.7.1 motorola drivers, in PC mode. All my settings were still there, all my apps are still installed(minus root of course) no need to restore anything.

Basically, it was smooth as silk. I haven't seen any definative confirmation about going leaked(2.3.9/2.3.13/2.3.15) to official 2.2 sbf, I'm here to say you can do it just fine. Sorry if it's a newb post, I haven't had to sbf before.

I thought going the SBF route would be in" out of box" condition, how did all your apps and settings remain? Or are you saying after restore evrything was back to normal

Just to be clear, you guys are downloading this file to your computer, not the SD card on your phone... right? I was just checking because I don't understand why the download speeds were so dang slow if you were downloading it to your computers hard drive?

Because most of us don't have premium accounts on the file sharing sites. :)

Download speeds are limited... intentionally to get you to sign up for a paid account.

Before I use this SBF to upgrade from Flyx to OTA 2.2, I wanted to ask a couple of final questions:

1) Once I upgrade, I can still use the Droid 2 root method to get root again, right?

2) If I root after upgrading, will I still be able to get the OTA fixes that are coming up from Motorola. Really, the only reason I would need to root right away is to use Titanium Backup and Rom Manager to create a new Nandroid.

3) What happens if we install a leaked 2.2 ROM over top of this sbf? Can we still do that? For example, I want to upgrade in order to get the new radio/kernel, but I'd still like to use the Flyx Rom. Is that possible?

4) When doing the sbf, do you have to do a factory reset upon completion?

Thanks!

EDIT: I got antsy and went ahead and used the sbf. Surprisingly, everything went smooth! However, when the phone rebooted, everything is still in place - my apps, my widgets, etc. Am I supposed to wipe and do a factory reset, or am I okay just keeping everything the way it is? The only thing I had to do is a *228 to re-activate my phone. Now everything is working fine, so I'd prefer not to do a factory reset. Of course, I lost root, but I assume I can use the SuperOneClick root method to gain root and still have access to the OTA fixes that are coming up?

What is the radio version after you do this? and is it better reception?

Do you know what radio version you had before also

Thank You

edit :
I have
version 2.3.15 (not the original, or this one)
2.2
baseband BC_C_01.09.06P (seems good, came with my phone v2.1 update)

Just used this on the phone I'm sending back to Verizon (faulty headphone jack) and it worked flawlessly. Nice to know that I can SBF the phone back to stock if I really needed to for some odd reason.

what i meant was the sbf is the same as the OTA. it has some issues that the new software update coming out fixes. so for those using the OTA this is a nice treat. but for anyone using a leak or custom rom there really is no reason to use this. all you will get is the same problems. my buddy is not a moto employee he does real world testing for them as a consumer. basically he tests the custom roms and leaks in a real world user environment and reports his findings to them. moto has admitted that the 2.2 OTA has issues and this sbf contains those as well. so while this is a safety net. its best not to use it if you don't have the OTA and need it.

trust me. i downloaded it for my file stash cause you never know. but i ain't touching it if i don't have to. :)

Ok so it is a the OTA? And it's no secret it has some problems (like every release) so if you want the OTA this will give it to you, errors and all. :D No problem thanks. If you install this you will be in a position to get the fixes later. Moto will release later and knowing them they will F with the keys again to make this sbf useless again so if you want to go 2.2 OTA from a leak this may be the only chance with this file.

I'm having a few small strange issues with the leaks/ROMs and I'm hoping this will straighten them out. SO I think I'll be using it.

Thanks for clearing that up and hope I did offend you are your friend.

It's like the 2.1 sbf if you want out of the box restore you need to wipe first or you will still have them.

did you confirm the radio and boot loader got up dated?

Can someone list all the new version numbers.
Kernel version
Build number
Baseband version
etc
once they use this?

thanks

How big is this bad boy suppose to be? I start d/l from strife and it says the file is 400+ Mb, after it's finished the file is only 200+ Mb..... Maybe it's just the dinosaur I am using to download. How bad is it when your phone is more powerful than your PC...LMAO

Yep, this is what I have too. I did not do a wipe or factor reset and everything seems to be working fine. I did lose root, of course. And some of the bloatware apps that were gone with Flyx are now back (like Blockbuster, etc). Now I will just wait until the OTA fixes come out and THEN I will start hacking the phone again.

Flyx was pretty stable, but I was definitely getting some of the problems Motorola listed that they are fixing. The ones I definitely experienced (with all of the leaked versions I tried):

- Battery force close
- Media won't play (had to reboot to get any music to play)
- WiFI connection/stability (would often lose connection or wifi would just lock up)

Is that kernek number right? I have the leak and it has a higher number
I have 2.6.32.9

Other wise the only difference is the baseband

Do you have the bootloader number?

I wouldn't hold your breath on getting the fixes anytime soon.

The funny thing is that the problems they say they have with 2.2 they had with 2.1 so why didn't they fix them in the OTA 2.2 ??

My battery FC stopped after I put RubX on my phone and my Wifi was working good up until a few days ago. (I had the connection problem since launch day I even started a thread here about its a PIA)

Anyways I'm flashing this sbf and hacking it right away I'm not waiting on them to fix anything since they don't seem to know how.:D

Is there any reason the file can't be downloaded to the sd card and tranferred to a pc? My pc conection leaves a lot to be desired.

About the 200MB size off of my download, let me know if anyone else gets that. I want to make sure I have a quality file up there. Anyone not wanting to worry about the speed restrictions you are more than welcome to use my link from my server, it is a direct link with none of that added garbage just grab the file and go. I am going to check to logs to see the size and make sure the file looks good, I did SSH into the box after the upload and everything looked good but there might be an issue. I am at work right now and don't have my a way to check the MD5 if anyone has gotten the file from my server and can verify that would be greatly appreciated.
