Possible Malicious Fake Update URL

Several of the posts mention Chrome. Has anyone observed this when using a different browser?

Just trying to pin down the variables.
Never. Not once.. BTW, chrome is a darn good browser but when I used chrome on PC, it got hijacked by someone in the phillipines.. Several times. And only on Chrome browser. Had to wipe PC several times with same problem until I done a full wipe/partition and installed Linux w/ Mozilla Firefox

I got the site to load via Firefox in a linux virtual machine. Instead of listing an android device that needed "fixing" the message said "your unknown browser needs fixing". :D

On the splash page, the entire page is comprised of nothingness. The only active html item on that is the button. Once I proceeded past that and came to the "system kernel ui update" page, there were a few different links on there which were spamtastic in origin. They 404'd when clicking on them. Googling them came up in some virus check type sites but most reports were leaning toward non critical, more of a spam redirect situation.

I'm not saying trust it, don't do that. But those were my findings fwiw.

Edit: btw I had system and kernel logs running at the time and saw no evidence of a hijack attempt.

My ZTE warp 4g hasn't asked me to update anymore. I heard and read on here that it missed some people's phones up

Fake warnings and attempted downloads from a dodgy website, that's nothing new. Difference is now they're aware of Android and not just Windows.

Think that says it all really...

As long as you don't actually install it, be OK. Looks like some illegal thing. Not surprised there's nefarious goings on. Same with many pr0n and illegal warez, appz and moviez sites.

Right on Mike - and never underestimate what an advertising network can do. Just ask our German users whose browsers were overtaken by porn (and only them) while we scratched our heads for two hours before we found the source.

This happened to me too, I knew it was an ad so I pressed the back soft key button when the window popped up, luckily it didn't harm my phone in any way.

still happening. i'm in india. i don't know where it came from but it varies. Sometimes the AndroLd Update popup happens (and there's no way to escape or back out except to exit out of chrome) but that's only half the time, the rest of the time it takes me to the play store automatically for Indian ecommerce site apps (flipkart and snapdeal - competitors) and porn sites in a brand new tab. Just charming :(

This is why I use the AndroidFourms app, I used to have that and many more redirects on my LG L70, I just went "I'm done." mode and got the AndroidFourms app. Use that for the time being people if you go on this forum often.

Edit: Also feel this any the first post should be sticky'd to help warn the dangers of this malware, and if they see it. Reject it.

Hi, lately I've been getting these "update" pop-up warnngs. I've also been getting pop-ups of random apps to download. I don't know if I somehow downloaded or visited a webpage with malware but this happens a lot. I've cleared all cache, cookies, etc. But nothing helps. Am I supposed to factory reset my phone to stop these pop-ups? Help please!

It isn't uncommon To get these pop-ups ocassionally. When this thread started it was many people getting it on multiple sites in the same week. Are you having this issue while visiting a single site? Several sites? Which ones? If you can pin that down then you have someone to report the issue too.
