Possible Reason For Poor Battery Consumption

I have a new SIM Card. I just pulled ghe SIM Card, restarted, and it ghost dialed twice. What the hell?

I keep restarting and it ghost dials every time now. I have no bars where I am, but it shouldn't ghost dial.

Is there a way I can update my roaming capabilities?

not if there's no signal where you are. I think pulling the sim probably triggered it to try to update.

You'll need to.go somewhere with a signal I think.

That might be true. I will see if it happens again. I feel like I need a replacement, but I just know this will all happen again.

After the ghost dialing, my battery wasn't declining so rapidly. This morning, it is a little more rapid, but not so horrible. I am still monitoring and I will take screenshots.

Part of the problem here is you don't know what your phone should or shouldn't do in a particular situation, but you think you do and convince yourself something isn't right because you think you know. Hope you get your problems sorted but aside from pulling your sim card in an area where you have no signal, I'm almost convinced you need a phone swap.

You may be right. I just don't wanna go through all that trouble. Right now, my battery seems to be normal.

Did me shutting down last night with Airplane Mode on help my battery when I started up and turn Airplane Mode off?

Check out these screenshots. The first two show my phone at the beginning of a full cycle.

It actually didn't drain that badly. Then, I woke up this morning and my phone ghost dialed. I restarted, toggled Airplane Mode, and it ghost dialed again upon the restart. (The phone even shut off by itself at one point.)

Check out these screenshots and tell me what looks abnormal. Thank you so much!

Looks like your phone screen was on for like 3+ hours. If that is the case, depending on brightness, I am not sure there is anything unusual about that. And as you can see, the reboot towards the end knocked a mystery 10% off the battery.

You may be right. I just don't wanna go through all that trouble.

You don't want to go through all of the trouble of going to a local store and exchanging your phone....which will take what... 45 minutes tops?

But you will spend a month messing with everything on the phone, posting 100 times on the forum, trying 100 different solutions...??????

Tim, I don't wanna go through getting the new phone, with a new screen protector, and risk of vertical banding, just to get home and have the same issues two days later.

If I can't fix it, then I don't see the point in getting a new phone, just for the problem to maybe occur again. I mean, I wanna get 4.0.4 and maybe these issues would subside.

I gotta say, and I don't mean to be insulting, but that's just dumb. You are going to keep a broken phone because you are afraid that if you get another new one it might be broken too? There's no logic there whatsoever. You prefer a 100% chance your phone is broken to, what, a 20% chance (or less) your next one is broken?

If you turn it on in the store and it has banding, return it on the spot and keep returning them until you get one that doesn't have banding. Once you do, take it home. See if it works. If it does, get a new Zagg. Problem solved for $20 and a trip to Best Buy. If it doesn't return it and either get another one or try a different phone.

Alternative? Sit at home with a broken phone posting 20x a day about your phone being broken.

Again, I don't mean to be rude or insulting, but I can't comprehend why you are going through all of this day in and day out. Other people with similar problems either kept returning Nexuses until they got one they liked or they got rid of the Nexus entirely.

OK, you would all be so proud of me (but first, I have to type the following)... I restarted my phone a couple of times, and it ghost dialed both times. Although, earlier, it actually ghost dialed for over a minute. That hadn't happened before.

Then, I just figured, I may as well do a manual call to *22899 - what could happen? I mean, the best scenario is that it stops happening.

So, I went to Best Buy and it didn't ghost dial upon a restart, they have a decent location for Verizon coverage. Anyway, it's just weird that it happens to me in my house, but it doesn't happen to my wife in our house.

But, the Best Buy representative (who is always so nice and helpful) told me that he thought that we should just send the phone out. Now, I was under the impression that it would just be replaced on the spot. I didn't know that it would be "sent out."

I mean, at least I have insurance through Best Buy, so there wouldn't be a charge (unlike Verizon).

But, I told him that I didn't want to do that because I knew what would happen.

1.) No one at Verizon or Best Buy would be able to diagnose the issue, because it doesn't happen all of the time. And, if they have a good connection to the cell phone tower (wherever they are), it wouldn't happen.

2.) There is nothing in the phone (that I could tell) that would tell them that my phone was ghost dialing.

3.) So, what I foresaw happening was they would either just return my phone to me with shrugged shoudlers, or they would replace it with a refurbished phone. So, then I would have a refurbished phone (no one wants that), with the possibility of this issue still arrising in the future - except this time, I would have a refurbished phone with this issue.

Your phone should be covered for 1 year by Samsung. There is no reason for it to be sent out for repair or for best buy's warranty to be involved.

So, within the first year, Best Buy has to just give me a new one?

The Best Buy dude didn't sound right when he said it would have to be mailes out.

In that case, I should exchange it, but my JuiceDefender is telling me I am at x2.12...

I mean, I am not losing much power while idling, it only drops in the morning when my screen is on. I still need to manually activate and let it finish and/or pull the SIM Card again.
