Root Possibly bricked lg optimus v?

next, at the ~#

mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /sdcard
flash_image boot /sdcard/vrecovery.img

if you get no errors, then, at the ~# type:
reboot

edit: I'm fading in and out of awake, I'll do what i can as i nod awake and check on this thread.

I made it past the first command but second command gave me this output

Flash_image boot /sdcard/vrecovery.img
Failed with error: -1
Error opening /sdcard/vrecovery.img@ #

next, at the ~#

mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /sdcard
flash_image boot /sdcard/vrecovery.img

if you get no errors, then, at the ~# type:
reboot

Get something rest, I greatly appreciate your help and I would be happy with continuing tommorrow if you have the time.

ok, it's saying that vrecovery.img isn't there
see if it shows up with
ls /sdcard/

and, I'm quite awake again, nevermind why. I'm still here for ya at least another hour.
edit: and i should have some time tomorrow as well. at least there's been some progress tonight.

also since i got off as i thought for the night i disconnected my phone then connected it again when i saw your post went through the flash_image command and it went through i tried to reboot but to no avail.

THe recovery i have is named differently - VM670NH_Recovery.img- is that why?

most guides say to rename it to vrecovery.img but that's just to make it easier to type.
you said flash_image worked without an error? like this:

flash_image boot /sdcard/VM670NH_Recovery.img

dang it, if it flashed the VM670NH_Recovery.img to the boot partition like it should've, then it should boot into it.
you said you rebooted, or just disconnected the cable?
a reboot into your existing recovery would unmount the sd card.

Yeah. Well my eager !@- couldn't wait so i exited the adb shell and rebooted from there i got to my recovery and installed the rom. Its on and running. Would like to ask you how i install the gapps though my friend. And again THANK YOU!

Woke up briefly. Checked on OP's progress. Wow! I wish I had bigsupersquids advice back in May when I bricked my current paper weight. The only thing I can do with it now is get it into Emergency mode, and thats only after totally draining battery and holding an incredibly difficult number of buttons while trying to plug phone into power. Had bigsupersquid been helping me out back then it wouldn't be were its at now.

No. The stock ROM available to convert back to stock is for OS version 2.2.1(or firmware version zv4). This is not compatible with your screen drivers. You can install Harmonia or Bumblebee. Both have the activation app.
Just remember to flash the pica07-remix kernel in the recovery; like you did with the gapps for the Gingerbread ROM you flashed.
You can flash an IHO ROM right after you activate, just make sure you make a backup of the ROM with the activation app before you flash the IHO ROM.

bumblebee needs the pica remix kernel flashed over it, only sprint optimus had the hitachi screens back when obijohn made bumblebee.
you can do the same thing with the old stock backup that's available.
don't forget to
flash_image recovery /sdcard/VM670NH_Recovery.img
to put a working recovery where it belongs while your rom is working!
Harmonia is good. if it blackscreens after install flash the pica remix kernel over it and it'll be fine after that. a small percentage of ov's don't like to flash Harmonia's boot.img right and go black.
glad you're up and running.
@andyopie, if you'd prefer a phone-sms-wifi only V with no mms or cell data service to a paperweight, send me your brick and I'll force sprint firmware onto it for you... breaks data service from VM but everything else will work.

I'm glad you managed to get past that stumbling block, you had just gotten into territory a little to the left of my experience!

That would be a perfect GrooveIP phone. ;)

Hey, bigsupersquid. Sounds great! Right now I have to run the good one 12-14 hours sometimes when trying to help someone. This means putting it on the charger while on the internet. The phone temp gets in the low to mid 40C. range for a couple hours every time on charger.
Having two would allow me to keep from having to do this. I could then use the old one as a primary internet device while at the house, and the good one as originally intended.
PM me with rest of info I need. Thanks.

Hey guys well my phone activated by itself no clue how though ha, I tried on the cm website but after I typed in the meid it wanted me to dial. ##virgin# which I tried and nothing so I decided to go to sleepand woke up to my phone connected. Lucky me. Although I can't boot into recovery. Unless I use the adb. Way. How do I fix that?

Just had a thought, if it's bricked until Sprint firmware can be jammed down it's throat, why can't it be re jammed with VM firmware after that? I mean, if you can get it to unbrick, albeit in a semi-nerfed state, could you then proceed to flash it into an un-nerfed state? I assume if this were possible, you would have already, and be busy explaining the steps. I'm thinking this has to do with flashing the wrong baseband for the radio, which as I understand is irreversible. I'm just curious, and want to pick your brain. I'm addicted to learning.

When I had a computer I tried using the KDZ updater(you have to put phone in emergency mode) and the LG updater. The problem was the firmware that is available (both zv4 and zv5) are missing something important that bigsupersquid could explain better than I could. When I finally figured out how to extract the file, I would get some sort of library error on install.

you've got cm running, so use terminal emulator to:

flash_image recovery /sdcard/VM670NH_Recovery.img

like Andyopie said, the vm firmware is broken... they've never released an OTA update.zip either, so once you have a sprint radio on the phone, data gets broken.
the lg vm firmware .cab files are missing a file inside. it would be named VM670.dll, and it's the key which allows the other 2 files in the .cab to be unpacked (by kdz, kp500utils, lg updater, or lgnpst)
boo lg. cost a lot of people a bricking (including me!) by not releasing complete firmware.
just as an fyi, i totally bricked my first v with lgnpst trying to force-flash it using a vm firmware patched with a renamed and slightly modified LS670.dll from a sprint zv7 firmware .cab file.

I tried it but it gave me an error message. Can I go into recovery with adb shell and install it from the SD card or that wont work?

Bummer. That would have been my next idea. Oh well, that's why I asked. I don't have any problems, I just like to know. Know what I mean?
