Pretty sure you mean the little geen Droids (Andy)..

You need to use Launcher Pro I believe , also download the icons and change stock icons with "Better Cut," or a similar program.

There's detailed instructions at this post as well as links to download the droids (instructions are for Droid X but should work with any android phone I believe):

i use betercut. but when i change logo on mail, it reverts to old logo when i recieve a message. also it reverts back to normal icon automatically with messages. whats the deal?

Using "minimum icons" with the "Launcher Dock" widget so each icon pulls up 8 different apps to chose from. I have them seperated by type (commonly used, media, communication, and productive)
