Post your internet speeds!

When I upgraded to 30Mbps, they gave me a superhub. My old Modem doesn't go above 20Mbps. I'd rather not have had the superhub. I'be been toying with putting it in modem mode and plugging either my old Linksys in or a new linksys.

That said, I haven't got wireless N on my laptop. That score was wired.

Yea my score was wired, my modem sits close to a bunch of electrical stuff (theater tv stand, tv, router, nas, ps3) So I use cat6 cables between most things. Normal laptop usage I just use wifi N though, unless I'm transferring data from laptop to the nas.

Its just finding a good, small profile USB N card, that has a chipset that is compatible with Linux.

My Router is in the same place. So I have the NAS and Media Player device connected via a switch. Just the laptop isn't.

I have a dilemma. My Raspberry pi is disappointing as a replacement for my OpenELEC / XBMC desktop PC.

I was going to use the Desktop as a Wired VM server host. Now It has to go back to being XBMC which means it cannot host anything. This means I either need yet another machine as a Host (no way do I want that) or a decent N adapter.

Yea, I can't say I've come across any, although I do have spare express and card bus cards

I'll miss this when we shut down

My WISP no longer drops my connection when the temps drop below 29*F but they slow down to a crawl...I'd rather have it than lose it though:

Where I live I must consider myself fortunate i can get 1-2mbps down

That's just it. There is no 'line' to speak of. I only have electric and water/sewer. Everything else is wireless. No phone lines, no cable...I live in a travel trailer in the woods. Only so much you can do with that!

I don't know how you survive. This is my WiFi at work.

I have similar speeds at home w/ FiOS.

I have a QuickStep interweb connection

Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow ..

With apologies to the non-dancers .. which I guess is probably all of you :)

There was a time when one needed a T1 line and over $300 per month to get half that speed!

Oh I survive. I can still play a mean game of call of duty and watch streaming video, Internet radio. The only time I notice is when I download updates.

Still, I think speed test apps don't work for me. Last night it said I had like 10kbps down which was impossible since at that speed I'd have no Internet...a second test it said my ping was 1555ms and download was .1kbps, then the third it said I had 1.25 Mbps down and 1.56 Mbps up.

CoD shouldn't really consume much bandwidth, it's real-time player positions, shooting, scoring, etc., AFAIK there's no heavy graphics data been downloaded or uploaded. It's latency and long ping times that makes something like that unworkable, e.g. satellite internet. Same with internet radio, which is likely to be only 320kbps at the most. Much more likely it's only 128-192 kbps. HD video can certainly demand high bandwidths, SD maybe only around 1-2mbps.

10kbps you could still probably browse and post on AF, it's mainly only text, with some moderate graphics. Might be a bit slow though.

That's over 1.5 seconds. Could certainly make Call of Duty and similar games unplayable. You'd get fragged and not even see the player who shot you. LOL.

Could be the server you chose to run the test

Server was closest to me, which is in Louisville. It ended up being my router. Word of advice, a more expensive 'smart router' is junk especially linksys. That thing had the most dumbed down software and was garbage, got a new netgear and it is back to 2mbps down and half that up, which is the package I have
