BTW it took a little work and some troubleshooting, but my new turntable and tube pre-amp work beautifully! I'm waiting on one piece to come in and I can start doing some deep record cleaning. I have a couple of albums, one as old as 1976, that are brand new and factory sealed. Most of these things aren't going anywhere near my turntable until they're thoroughly cleaned.
 
I'm LP rich for one that has no means to play them. I have somewhere between five and six hundred albums and the majority of my library is sixties, seventies, and early eighties releases.
I do have all of the Beatles LPs factory sealed as well as the copies I played. They were all taken care and played on a quality turntable of the time. I never dreamed they would come back into fashion... I just couldn't bring myself to toss them. I love music!

If you're interested, I decided on the Audio-Technica AT-LP5X as it's the only turntable in their "audiophile" line that can also play 78 RPM records. I have several styli to use based on the type of music (there's a special gray conical stylus just for 78s). It gets rave reviews for a turntable under $500. The tube pre-amp adds that old warmth and flavor to the music that digital just can't capture.
 
I think you are into a great hobby Chief and the listening pleasure unequaled. I'll let my kids explore the collection at some point in time. I had my fun. Though a sorry excuse for copies of music, I have a collection of MP3s now. Between me being half deaf and listening to the missing music files, the MP3s work great for me. :) They are highly portable and quickly sortable.
I listen to them while working and my truck when I travel. Sad excuse for full recording reproduction for sure.
 
I've lost a lot of the high end, especially in my right ear. Hopefully I'll be able to discern the difference between vinyl and digital... if not, this will be a short-lived (albeit costly) hobby.
 
It's been years since I've heard vinyl trough quality equipment but there is a difference I think I could pick up. It's the earthy sound of vinyl vs the clinical sound of digital... no matter how much information is being reproduced.

I'll bore you with a quick observation about hearing loss. I've complained many times to my audiologist that I lack bass in my aids and everything sounds way high in treble. The conclusion was that I had high end hearing loss decades ago leaving recordings sounding heavy in bass. The old songs I've listened to all my life now sound wrong but I'm hearing them right for the first time. They sound wrong!

If you have any level of hearing loss, I highly recommend having it corrected. The consequences of ignoring the deficit creates problems that can't be compensated for.
 
Yeah, it was naval gunfire that took the high end from my right ear, leaving me with tinnitus that can't be fixed. I tried the VA's hearing aids, but they all have the little dangly bit that sticks down in my ear and I don't want ANYTHING stuck down in my ear! I was hoping for some decent earbud-types, but the VA told me they don't have anything like that. My hearing is still very sensitive, though, having made a career of listening for tones, whines, whirrs and other noises that weren't supposed to be there. To this day I'll ask the Darling Bride "what the heck is that noise?" and, while she can't hear a thing, I'll then trace it to the high-pitch sound of a ceiling fan motor. I'll turn off the ceiling fan and AHHHHHHH...
 
I am with you, with my widex hearing aids, I am really enjoying every song I used to listen to when I was younger, it is too bad about people's voices though.
That you cannot replace easily unless you watch them on youtube..

Nah I did not pick those up, instead a USB multi plug in, for my computer, with swifters and also peanut butter pretzels.

We are tweaking our 2025 garden planner and I'm optimistic that we'll have a bumper crop! This week I'll be moving our blueberry and blackberry bushes; killing the grass/weeds in the raised garden with 20% acidity vinegar before covering the ground with cardboard and lots of mulch; and preparing the containers we'll use to grow many of the plants. I ordered a BUNCH of plants & seeds; more edging to go under the deck, landing and around the garden perimeter*; worked on scheduling removal of all the junk poplar trees from the woods; and started planning what we're putting in their place (hint: we ordered a miniature cherry tree and two plum trees). We're gonna eat good - and we have TWO containers dedicated to mini-cucumbers that retain a lot of crunch when pickled. I'll be visiting our local farm center tomorrow to buy 4x2 and 6x2 stainless steel livestock troughs for use as planters (after drilling drain holes in them) and a lot of topsoil, garden soil and composted manure to mix together.

*- to make it easier for our lawn guy, I'm going to edge a 1-foot wide bed around the raised garden so we can plant alyssum and milkweed flowers to attract pollinators.
