POST YOUR SPEED 1X and 4G/LTE

This is still up in the air and looks more and more like bandwidth limitations rather than caps. It may be capped but with not enough bandwidth to reach the cap at all times. Metro Would have had to increase their bandwidth quite a bit from what they were used to before to handle the increased speeds with 4G.

I'm going to see if a MetroPCS Mobile Data Engineer can give more info on this.

If I have helped you in any way, here is my tip jar:
thanks mike, i certainly will take this into consideration the next time i use my phone in such a way, but i am very interested to see what you dig up

i do have a real internet connection i just like pushing things to the limit, I don't believe that this effects everyone elses speeds, the reason is i think we are caped at a certain speed, if so it should not effect others to use the full capacity of my speed

It not only affects others speed but can prevent users farther out from connecting. Read about cells breathing to get an understanding why.

Metro is definately capping the speeds. Users in the bay area exit Metros network in hollywood. I drove to hollywood last night and intentionally searched out the gps coordinates of the data center. I used an app to verify which cell tower was closest and made sure I was connected to it and did a speed test. I got the same damn speeds as up north.

Edit: I. Have an idea. If we did a speed benchmark between two handsets we could determine what type of throttling they were using

my wife and I both get the same speed around 5.55 in and around my house. of course it could be different for different areas

Called cs and apparently they say its an outage in my area yet 4g icon still on?

Get the hell outta here, I think im located in a weak 4g area cause as I go further into PA speeds increase.

i think mike down in miami is enjoying full speed on his 4g and whoever lives in texas but for the rest of us its either so/so or pfft!

Lol, no building penetration it seems. 4g turns off instantly soon as I enter for work. And im in here for 8 hours a day. Heh this just keeps getting better and better.

Man this really stinks, cant watch any videos or nothing on their 4g cause of the lag/buffering. I dont think Philly is ready for their 4g yet. or maybe its my phone

Yah this is something they have to work on in NY. Buidling Penetration SUCK for 4G 1X and just plain all Signal to make a call, But every time i find a flaw with there service i always think about one thing SAVING $80-84 a month over sprint lol And all the bitterness disappears and a smile comes to my face. So there are some things you will have to live with.

I don't know man. I live in Philly, and happen to run a Metro store here aswell and I have decent 4g speeds on my Indulge.. No 5mbps or even 3mbps like the other guys in here but I seem to get 1-2mbps usually.. Although I just did a test in my basement and I got crap speeds. So who the hell knows really.. If I didn't own a Metro store and if they had a better phone, I'd go back to *gasp* cricket.. I prefer their constant 3g speeds over my sometimes good 4g speeds.. *shrug*

Lol wow, id take 1-2 mbps constant speeds over 130kbps anyday. Any idea when they may build their spectrum here? Cause they making me think about returning this phone and I would love to keep it.

I wish I knew. I had reps in the store on Friday and they had no answer for me. I don't think they even know. They had no idea what new devices were coming either. They were more concerned that our store was out performing every store in the area than providing me with any useful information.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 4G speeds I get on my Indulge, when I get them. But it's not constant enough for me. I want to pull out my phone, enable my 4G and get great speeds every time. But alas, that does not happen. I guess I shouldn't complain too much. I get a $60 4G plan for $40/mo.. I can't beat that.

All i can tell you is if you are in a 4g Area go back to ther store and exchange the phone before you 7 days and see if that make any difference.

I got 4373kbps down & 2853kbps up. Thats the best one but on average when the 4G wants to stay on I get 3000 down and 500 up.

UPDATE! 5-16-11
Can't even hold 4G long enough to get 4G speed test reading.

Nootrak4, I did that with my first phone after 3 weeks, and now my second phone seems to following suite like the first phone. Work good for a bit like one week tops and then 4G starts getting spotty and worse each day passing. Or thats how it seems.

Also is anyone else having issues with the speedtest.net app? I installed it onto my Indulge and everything seemed to be fine for about 1/2 hour and now my phone keeps on freezing up. Unstall and see if things return to normal. Will update later.

I tried the speed test.
Weird because notice this was with 1x.
Maybe just a bug in the display?

I took a screen shot and attached. (Trying to)

It's a bug. I've seen this in my phone before as well. If you actually use the lte functionality test and turn off 4g, you'll see the 1x icon go away then come back, and your speeds will decrease.
It's obviously samsung code being as sh@tty as them...

Uninstalled and reinstalled speedtest.net app. And now everything works fine.
