Help Power button doesn't click anymore..

Seems to have lost almost all of its clicking ability. Still works but I'm afraid not for long. I'm looking to do one of the two options.

1. I got the phone in May 28th (same day the phone came out, actually a day before). If I'm not mistaken the phone would still be under warranty. If I'm mistaken please let me know. I may go this route but I'm looking for confirmation from someone on this forum as far as warranty and the possibility that Verizon would comply if I do go this route. I was told a while ago that the warranty is a year but double checking.

2. Is there a widget/app out there that can do the same exact thing as the power button? Simply turn on and off the screen either by using a widget or using a button. Thinking about it, I guess I would need a button to at least turn it on and a widget to turn it off. I played around with no lock but that is not what I'm looking for. I still want to have the screen lock. There was also screebl but don't want that either.

Thanks for the help!

Warranty is a year, but the phone came out on april 27th, not May. Take it to a store and see what they say. There is also replacement parts you can buy online if you are somewhat handy.

That is what I wasn't sure of, April or May. Well, that pretty much leaves option 1 out.

If anyone knows anything for my 2nd option I'd appreciate it.

Yeah I'm pretty handy. Just would know were to get those parts and what parts I would need. Anyone???

Thanks!

w/r/t the second question, aren't you going to run into problems if you need to restart the phone? You're gonna want to take it in and get it checked out at the store. Maybe they can even do something for you there without too much hassle. Good luck.

Widget locker (paid) has an option to turn on the screen with any of the buttons. You can use widgets for the lock screen. I use widgetsoid 2.x and it has an option for the lock screen so I can turn of the screen without pressing a button, but there are others if you have a preference.

Ideally if I could use the optical button to turn on and off the screen that would be best. Can you confirm that the optical button turns the screen on the incredible with widget locker? How about off? If not then your other suggestion (widgetsoid 2.x) would be fine to turn the screen off.

Just set up widgetsoid 2.x and put a widget on my homescreen, works great! Now if I can get the optical button to do it all....

AND yes I understand there are several threads out there that can do this but STILL no easy solution to have just the optical button turn the screen on. If the volume button has to work as well then so be it, that is fine. I think the only thing I've found is widget locker pro which does this but not sure how stable it is after reading comments. Anyone use this???

Well I have two things I started to use but now back to one. widgetsoid 2.x has been great for making my screen turn off. For turning my screen off I was using lockbot free version until I realized you can't use your own screen lock. You can set one of these within lockbot but you have to buy the pro version. Now I don't have a problem buying it for 2 dollars but it hasn't proven completely stable with the time I've used it. Trying to do certain features caused force closes, hitting the optical button worked about 80% of the time as many have said in my searching.

From what I have read, widgetlocker which is also 2 dollars, has the same optical/volume button wake feature and looks to have many more options for the lock screen. I may just go ahead and buy it but I was hoping for some feedback if anyone is using this and your thoughts or other suggestions.

Thanks

I haven't dealt with this in awhile but some time ago, I tried what I believe to be every option out there (rooted and non-root) for optical trackpad wake. None of them were 100% reliable and I believe it to still be that way. Even CM7 stable has the issue, sometimes it snaps to immediately, sometimes it will after a few seconds of holding it and sometimes I just have to try again. That's the way I remember all the apps/hacks. I think it's just a limitation with this phone. It's been worked around but not without glitches.

I'm on my 4th Dinc and none of them clicked. Some were easier to depress than others and the one I'm using now is the most difficult. It's still working but not easily. But... no click

A noise doesn't have to be associated with a click. Now when I push the button it's more a soft button press then a button click. Particulars, particulars... Anyway, some may use the power button to sleep the screen more then others, as I do. Some may have the screen time out in 15 sec therefor not using the power button as much. All depends on how you want to set your phone up. I have it set to a minute but find myself turning off the screen earlier then that when I'm finished, for example reading something on the intertubes. Now that I use widgetsoid 2.x to turn off the screen half the battle is won.
