Powering on without using power button

Is anyone familiar with apps that allow you to power on your phone without using the power button. I've noticed that I am pressing that button alot, and I'm wondering if that could become an issue. It is not clear just how common a problem it is, but I've seen reference to power buttons not working and apps designed to power the phone off and on without using the button. Not saying it is true of the Infuse, but considering how much I use the button it got me thinking about it.

ive used one but cant remember what was the app called i can check later and it worked great but i was using it with my motorola atrix cause i heard their power button wears qickly and it uses the volume button to power on

I'm trying to do the same thing. No apps I tried so far work. Strangely, I noticed that the volume buttons work, but only when the phone is charging.

I'm sure someone will come up with an app that can do this soon. The phone is still fairly new on the market.

I thought there were apps that claimed to do this, but maybe not on the Infuse? Which ones did you try? Like you said, being a new device it is probably too early for this type of app.

The only app that claimed to be able to do this and actually has a setting for it is Widget Locker. It apparently works on other phones, but not on the Infuse (it actually caused my phone to overheat and eat the battery, so I had to uninstall it).

I also tried No Lock, which also apparently works on other phones, but not on the Infuse (but this one is good for its main purpose, so I kept it).

I also have Screen Off and Lock -- good app, but doesn't help with this issue.

Have you tried anything else?

I have had no issues with this/or any other feature using widget locker.

Feel free to let me know what issues you are having and I can try and help...the developer of that app is also awesome...you may try contacting him.

You were able to get something besides the power button to wake up the Infuse from sleep mode?

yes, widget locker has a setting where you can use the volume rocker as well. I believe you can even use the search and home buttons...I haven't used that feature and if it does exist I could see how that might cause issues.

there is another app (if it is still around) that was called shake to wake or something along those lines

I haven't tried any of them. I had posted here to get some feedback and recommendations before doing that.

It definitely works for my infuse as well. I can use the volume buttons to wake and i haven't experienced any battery issues either. Ive run it 24/7 for a Couple months now. Love it, my gf is jealous of my awesome lockscreen. Compared to her iphone of course.

SwitchPro Widget has an option to create a widget on the homescreen that when pressed will turn the screen off. I use it to disable the screen instead of pressing the power button. It obviously can't help in turning the screen back on, but I figure if it saves 50% of the wear and tear on the power button my phone should last plenty long enough for me to grow bored of it and upgrade to the next device. But given how happy I am with the Infuse that's not a big concern of mine. I came from the iPhone 4 (jailbroken) and I couldn't be happier. I wish my GF were jealous, but she just doesn't care about gadgets much so as long as it makes phone calls and lets her check damnyouautocorrect dot com each night before bed she's a happy camper although she hates camping.

I just downloaded widget locker and I can not get the volume buttons to power it on, I have "easy wake mode" checked, is there something else I need to do to get it to work?

disable the stock lock screen in advanced... other than that reboot and see if it works then.

it works fine on my infuse

I found this thread and it is a little old but maybe I can breath some life into it.

Has anyone used the WidgetLocker app successfully with a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 running Gingerbread (V2.3.5), specifically I want to use the volume control to awaken.

Thanks!
