Predict the 5 AT&T Android Phone

Well, my reasoning is this. The streak is coming out, and they have a mid-range*coughlowendariacough* phone, they have the super phone(captivate), and they'll have the streak, as well as the backflip. I don't see why they want a non-unique phone.

Uh, I believe the promise was for us to 'have' 5 android phones by the end of Q2...announcements don't mean jack.

Though I am hoping that all the pressure they've been receiving from other outlets and the outright anger at the 2 substandard devices actually released led them to release this info to appease us for now.

The original press release used the words "scheduled to be available" and "launched".

I said before, I'm just happy to have the announcement, as long as it's not like that Aero announcement.

Yeah, the Aero announcement has me rather worried...seriously how many months has it been since they talked about that one?

Of course the demand for that one wasnt exactly high considering the specs....

Well, Dell is new to the phone arena so I wouldn't be surprised if the Aero not showing up is due to them and not AT&T. A Samsung phone being announced I think is a pretty solid indication that it will be coming. It's just a question of when.

According to the AT&T site, they now have 4 announced devices, although only 1 still in the stores

MOTOROLA BACKFLIP

First post! :D

Hopefully by posting in this board I can avoid all the "Just switch to Verizon/T-Mobile/blahblah" replies. ;)

Anyhow... would it be safe to assume that any Android phone released by AT&T is going to be bogged down with un-uninstallable AT&T crap and locked to not run unsigned apps? As much as I'd love a cheaper subsidized phone, I'd prefer an unrestricted and open phone even more. Wondering if I should stop waiting on AT&T and just buy the Nexus One from Google (or some other phone somewhere else...?).

I was playing with an HTC Incredible last week... not sure how much longer I can tolerate my existing dinosaur phone...

Well. Buy a phone from AT&T for cheap, and root it. It's usually pretty easy.

Uh, what phone would that be exactly? The only currently available Android phone is the Backflip, and it hasn't been rooted (yet).

Whether the Aria can or will be rooted has yet to be seen, and the same holds for any other future Android device.

The aria will be rooted, because it's HTC, and most of them will at some point. The captivate will, or at least a way will be found around the block on apps.

Incredible has not been rooted yet. Given that it is an AT&T specific device, it might be harder as not many people in Europe/Overseas will be trying. Who knows, hopefully somebody finds a security hole.

dont put faith in future rooting...you might be disappointed. Especially since they are AT&T only phones. People may not bother. Many of us on this board are jonesing for a good android phone. We are hoping this Samsung is it, but as you know AT&Ts commitment to Android is less than stellar, so if you 'can' switch I personally would. If you can't then N1 really is the 'safest' bet for support

THEY HAVE OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED OR RELEASED 5 ANDROID PHONES (before the end of 1H 2010):
Samsung Captivate (flagship)
HTC Aria (nice little device)
Motorola Backflip
Motorola Flipout
Dell Aero

Who won? Looks more like all AT&T customers lost.

They have 4 listed on their site, but only "2" real devices :D Even though they list the Aero, it isn't available for sale.
