Root Preferred custom rom

Make sure you have the Firewater file in the SDK folder where you're running the commands from.

Also, did you completely root the phone after you unlocked the bootloader?

Install Super User and custom recovery?

The phone needs to be fully rooted for Firewater to run correctly.

hi again granite,

well I thought I had done all the above but maybe I've got confused. im starting to doubt myself.
I saved the firewater file in the abd folder.
as far as I'm aware the phone is completely rooted- what is the simplest way to confirm?
I have su installed and twrp recovery...

here's the latest fyi. I went through the process by following the firewater is here link and got the following message:

'whelp, this sucks firewater can not work on your device no amount of reflashing retrying or ruuing will fix DO NOT COME TO IRC FOR UPDATES OR ETAS!!!!! if we are able to fix this issue it will be announced bye bye sorry it didn't work out...'

I guess the next question is how to turn s-off without firewater?!!

If you want to give Firewater another go, we can help you get the commands correct, unless your device is incompatible with Firewater. If this is the case you'll need to use Sunshine, which is a $25 all inclusive paid app.
Like Granite says, you'll have to use [thread=854630]Sunshine[/thread]

Edit: Like Granite and EM says :D

Quick question guys.
I'm assuming I need an unrooted device to use sunshine. From what I've read the fully un root feature on the SU app is unreliable so how do I get back to stock from this position most easily? Or have I completely misunderstood and will sunshine with with a rooted device??

You can be rooted to run Sunshine, just need to be as close to stock with your Rom and Kernel. If you haven't flashed any custom roms or kernels, you should be good to go. :)

Keep SuperSU on the phone, Sunshine will need it. ;)

Hello all,

Have used sunshine for s off. Success at last!
Seemed pretty straight forward. Followed instructions and sunshine said I was s off and then rebooted. Is there any way to check this as the sunshine icon disappeared after reboot?
Assuming all is well I was hoping to remove all bloatware then install viper as a ROM so I can start exploring the real potential of android.
Have tried using titanium to remove bloat, I experimented with you tube, but it always reappears on reboot. Titanium reboots into recovery after I hit 'uninstall' at which point I've simply selected reboot/ system.
Is there a more reliable way of removing bloat our am I just doing something wrong?
As always, thanks to everyone who've helped me get this far- I promise to leave you in peace and stop asking daft questions soon enough:-)
Cheers
SL

Welcome to the dark side of truth and justice!

You can confirm your s-off status by going the bootloader screen - either by holding the volume down button while powering up, or by issuing -

adb reboot bootloader

From a command window where you have adb and fastboot installed on your pc.

Btw - when you install a rom, you're going to lose any changes you made to the existing rom, like freezing bloatware.

Thanks. Feels good to finally be over on the dark side.....couldn't have got here without help from this forum. Just checked and am definitely finally rooted and s off.
So is there no point in removing bloat until I've installed a custom ROM our have I misunderstood?

If you haven't already,you may wanna make a back-up of the OEM Stock ROM,before you de-bloat,flash a custom ROM,etc..........

We do have access to stock roms and stock nandroid backups that will get you out of a jam, but nothing substitutes one you've made for yourself.

Like EM said, make one as soon as possible. Save it to your computer as well as leaving a copy on the phone. :)

Before changing anything or flashing a mod or rom, make a nandroid. Strange things happen, stuff gets borked. Having that nandroid of right before you broke everything is priceless in my book. Been there too many times myself to not pass that advice on. :p

So do I make a nandroid by accessing the bootloader or is there a different process? I'm looking to get this done over the next few days
