Root Preferred custom rom

So do I make a nandroid by accessing the bootloader or is there a different process? I'm looking to get this done over the next few days

Two ways to get started -

Plug in to your pc, go to your command window where adb is and -

adb reboot recovery

Or, go to your bootloader by holding the volume down while powering up until you start to see the white screen - in the Hboot screen, volume buttons to select RECOVERY then tap power to go there.

Then you're in TWRP. The Backup button is right on the main page.

The little gray bar that says internal storage is a button, tap to change to SD card if you prefer, both work fine.

Little gray bar with backup name is a button, you can guess the rest.

Default is to backup boot, system and data - that's a nandroid backup. Let it do compression and don't skip md5 generation - iow, accept the defaults all the way on the backup details.

Only change the name and / or location and those only if you feel like it. Date in the name is always a good idea but not required. The defaults are fine for your first one.

The whole process will take you less than 20 minutes the first time, including getting in, backing up, and rebooting.

After you get on to custom roms, you get the advanced power menu (APM) - and you can choose to boot into recovery when you like - much easier.

Just in case there was anyone trying to install the NV ROM in the last day or two & experienced booting issues (three of us reported the same errors @XDA),the problem, whatever it was, appears to have been remedied.

Just d/l a fresh copy & flashed w/stock kernal w/no issues.Haven't set-up yet,just a BTW for those interested.

hi guys,

im sure you've all enjoyed a few days off from my relentless questions:)

so, bootloader is unlocked, custom recovery is installed, I have s-off and have done a full back up using TWRP:D

before I really head to the dark side and flash Viper, I just have a few questions:
firstly, if I have problems, how do I access the backup? I saved it to the device as my card is very small and full of photos.
second, and this one is a bit dumb, but to download the rom is this the link I use on my HTC?

ViperOneM8_1.8.0_OTA.zip | ViperOneM8_1.8.0_OTA.zip | by ViperOne for One M8

Also, as far as syncing with my pc for music, contacts, photos etc, will I still be able to use the normal HTC software or will I have to use something else?

Thanks in advance as always- you're all legends

i think you need to down load the full version first 1.7.1 or similar... i would do it on PC and then copy to phone sd.. then flash via twrp... i used the wipe option in aroma install

so have the 1.7.1 downloaded on desk top as zip. do I need to copy the whole zip over to the sd card or is there just a specific file/folder required?
sl

Im an Android Revolution HD kinda guy at the moment but all the features in the Viper ROM look very tempting :D

afternoon all,

well I finally got viper installed so thanks to everyone.:)
looks like its going to take me a while to find my way around so im not going to ask for the guided tour but does anyone know how to disable animations? I did this using the developer options previously which I can't find now as I guess they are hidden in viper somewhere
also, my phone memory is nearly full after the install. I'm still having problems with a some bloatware but the main issue is obviously that I've installed a new rom. at the risk of sounding dumb, will the stock rom still be installed and is there anything I can do about it? I did wipe data before I installed but I'm not entirely sure what was removed and whether I can get rid of more or not???

thanks

yeah good thinking.. I've just got one too.. so can copy any backups there to keep
....i think twrp should allow you to use external but not found option for it... probably in advance :-\

Tweaks, Home screen for animation.

Your data area is determined by your apps and setups.

The system area was replaced, assuming that you selected a full wipe in Viper (which if you didn't, you're going to have problems). The update zips are in your storage download folder.

The rom and update zips hang around on your storage until you decide to delete them. Backups also take storage (internal or sd card, your choice) until you move them to a pc for a rainy day and delete the phone copies. You'll find them under the TWRP folder(s).

Don't see a Sig in tapatalk but yea it prob shows ViperM8 on desktop but I'm not gunna change my sig every time I switch roms since I only use tapatalk lol

I think he was wondering about the Black Plaque and did you mean Black Plague?

(Hey, maybe it was a sinister dental rom and Black Plaque is correct (j/k OK j/k).)

Let me know if you care either way, I'll do that thing and throw the edit for you - 100% your call, it's just an offer since you're one of the good guys. :)

Yeah I found the animations I just couldn't figure out if there's a way of turning them off. It's a small issue and hardly worth worrying about.
I did a full wipe and have had no problems with viper at all.
Great Rom (not that I'm an expert) so thanks to all for the recommendation.
Cheers

Gotcha.
I'm still using the OG PHANDROID app & don't see siggies when mobile either.
Started using a siggie a mere two weeks ago myself.

Just wanted to iterate that I wasn't throwing stones,Lord knows I should be the last person on Earth to do so. :help:

Rock on 03mustangGT!
