Root Pressuring Motorola

buzzcon

Everything I have read points to Motorola and there inability/reluctance to release files/drivers needed to make ICS a fully functioning ROM on the Triumph. I tried to do my part (albeit a small part) to see if they can be persuaded to release the needed information. So I dropped them a little note regarding this little situation.

So, I figured I am a paying customer of theirs and I have every right to let them know how I feel about the situation. I also feel that the Triumph is a very popular phone, just look at the number of threads in the Triumph area. There is also safety in numbers. So, instead of sitting and waiting for things to happen, I suggest that we all send them our thoughts on the matter.

The phone is obviously an after thought at this point for them so I would like to think someone would come to their senses and do the right thing.

I sent my request Sunday and have not had a reply as of yet. Am I wasting my time?

I will happily voice my want for the Triumph source.

Want to point me in the right direction as to contacting them? I think if we get enough people to do it, it can happen.

I wish I could say no but the truth is Motorola has given us all they are required, which was the kernel. Tickerguy fought for the camera files and lost. I fought for the device files and lost. Others signed a petition and they lost.

Our best course of action maybe contacting other vendors of our phone, like Sharp or Cherry. It's possible we might have a shot going that route since they do offer gingerbread for those devices.

I just contacted their support area and asked them to forward my message to anyone who would listen or anyone in a position of authority. I did not know where else to contact. :o

At some point I would like to think that this would not be such a big deal for them and they would loosen their grip from around our throats. Sorry for being so melodramatic. ;-)

Honestly, why would any company allow a user to make a previous device better, when they want to sell you a new one? I don't think they would do it, but I do think g60's suggestion is possible.

Sounds good g60 I will petition where ever I can we have to find it some where the camera crap is just to tricky let us know what to do but of course they are only leagaly allowed to give us so much so where is the under the table deal? Lol jk jk nr

What about the vendors for the phone (FoxCONN, and the chipset suppliers) It's their parts that were put in the phone. I have always thought that would be a reason to disallow the release of the drivers and stuff.

I know there is a thread the lists the hardware vendor that supplies the Triumph. I just cannot find it at the moment. I would be happy to send a request to whomever and try to get under their skin. Who knows, maybe we can get whats needed to help JellyBean become available on the Triumph as well.

While I know nothing about programming, I am willing to add support to those who do :).

Please list who's monkey tree we need to shake :deal:

Problem is FoxCONN builds the hardware but it's still licensed from some other company. It's like Apple, even though FoxCONN builds them it's licensed through Apple. I would track down who licensed our parts like Qualcomm, Yamaha, Toshiba, etc..

One issue may be that the Triumph is Motorola in label and bezel only; it is a Huawei X6. It is a "red-headed stepchild".

I will say my 4-month Triumph experience broke my faith and trust in Motorola and I will avoid them henceforth (and not just with phones).

I was aware of this, I wasn't sure which way the relationship was (what came first the Triumph or X6).

I agree, and the fact that Motorola is now owned by Google could make them even worse. I really don't have an issue with the phone itself. In fact, it does everything I want and it's a phone to boot ;)

The phone itself isn't bad to me either it's just Virgin/Motorola lack of support and now it's the most discounted phone (currently $50 off) they sell and one of only two I believe still on Froyo. It's practically a fire sale and I expect support to exponentially diminish now.

Well, the transition won't happen overnight. Motorola Mobility is still a very independent company. The fact that Google hasn't released any phones with Motorola so far (even the latest Tab comes from Asus) says that Google doesn't really need them. From what I read they bought them more for the patents, not for the great devices that Moto builds.

OK, now I am moving on to trying other suggestions. I sent a message to Qualcomm to see if this is something that they can help us with. I have also been doing some research and found this page that compares a device HTC One V CDMA (this runs ICS) that run the same Qualcomm CPU and the same (or similar) CMOS sensor 5.04 megapixel camera.

The HTC One V runs Linux OS Kernel 2.6.39.4 and is very similar to the Triumph.

I am researching more and will post anything I think might be of use. Please let me know if anything I post is of any use. I might find something useful, I have a lot of free time and will do what I can to help.

Can someone also post what is needed to get the camera functioning with ICS ROMs in case I get lucky and find someone willing to help.

Unfortunately Qualcomm is a non starter, they provide development platforms for their devices but it's completely up to the individual manufacturer how they go about implementing the device in their platform. Even if they did have the information they would be bound by NDA's with their partners.
