I'm getting "Failed to connect to server" with Prisma, and it won't do anything now... Not so good if it has to be online just to mess around with photos on the phone. FAIL!

Hmm that seems unnecessary doesn't it? Why the need for a server connection?
 
I think that processing the filters on the server side probably prevents reverse engineering. But who knows... Would be curious to hear for sure.

Seems like a crazy way of doing it, not least because it would put a tremendous amount of load on their servers. I'd want the filter processing to be done locally on the device.
 
I know a lot of people aren't going to like this, but their privacy statement is pretty clear that they are collecting data about how you use the service and using that to target ads ... you know, the Google business model.

There is no free lunch.

And snooping your webpage visits, cookies etc. Pretty invasive. But that's the price for your 'free' app.
