Root Prl

I have a triumph that is rooted and flashed with CM7. My 3G speeds are drastcally slow, always less than 100 and Ive checked them different times of the day and its the same. I went to the sprint website and it looks like there is a tower that has been updated that is less than a mile from where I live. What are the steps to find out what tower my phone is connecting to? Also, should I be getting fast speeds because there is a tower less than a mile from me? If I need to change PRLs, is there a step by step guide I could folow? Im not very techological savvy, so that would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know what the buildpropfile is that gives you 3G all the time. Thanks

Some say it does nothing... But I know for a fact some do something... Maybe not better, but still... I have tried 20ish PRLS and some were about the same others had no signal whatsoever, some had no 3g, some had very little differences... Just stick with Sprint PRLS because other company prls wont work...

Well the PRL is supposed to mess with what towers your phone connects to for ROAMING. Since this phone does not have roaming it should not do anything. I haven't messed with it myself, but theoretically it shouldn't make a difference to change the Preferred Roaming List.

But it does O.o

Well, can you prove you are connecting to different towers? Or anything like that besides just saying things are better/worse? I am not saying you are wrong, I just like empirical evidence. :D

I have heard reports of people saying their Triumph is roaming in certain spots as well (which isn't supposed to happen), that may be a glitch of some sort. Or it may indicate that the phone can roam, and a PRL change may affect things. But it may be an error and the phone is reporting that when it isn't happening. I don't really know how to test that.

I use WiFi usually for data, and I get good enough signals for calls most everywhere I go. So I have not seen a need to change this.

I can prove that I'm connecting to different towers if I use open signal I think... Do you want me too? I have used 20+ sprint prls and can switch over to one that makes my signal drop and shows -120 DbM. But I know where you are coming from I don't always believe stuff that people say, but I will post screenshots/ videos if you want.

I know how well each one would work depends on your location, but if you want to so I can see that they do make you connect differently that would be cool. It might help others out. Non-Sprint PRLs should be useless to use regardless, but the Sprint ones may prove to be useful.

Ok let me flash back to stock then... And I've flashed a verizon prl before and I just didn't get a signal so yea...

Download an app from the market called Open Signal Maps. You'll need to go outside so your GPS can lock and you can see what tower you are currently connected to. It doesn't show other towers that you aren't currently connected to unless you're on a GSM network.

I wouldn't say -fast- but at the least -faster- than it would be of you had a weaker signal.
My speed always sucks, but apparently a few around get decent speeds... Guess it depends on what city you live in.

The sprint prls that I tried didn't help or hinder me at all, but I live in B.F. North Carolina. I didn't try 20 of them though, before I gave up. As always, YMMV!
