Hey all. My galaxy s2 is driving me up the wall.

1. It's telling me that i dont have enough space. I tried everything - I've uninstalled almost every app, i've cleared the cache, ive gotten an sd card and moved everything onto it, and nothing works... it keeps telling me that i only have 140 mb free despite 400 mb total in apps. hence my calendar won't sync, i cannot read any emails and i cannot do pretty much anything with it.

2. I cannot connect my phone to the pc as it simply won't recognise it. Yes i've tried different cables and different pc's but nothing worked. I've tried turning USB debugging on and off (whatever that does) as instructed by the numerous android help videos but it doesn't work.

3. I cannot transfer files to and from the phone via kies air, as it won't connect to my phone for some reason.

4. It gets stuck and restarts at least twice a day for no apparent reason.

I have no clue what else to do, I've tried EVERYTHING and im really really frustrated, and to be quite honest, very disappointed with the choice I've made in 2012 between iOS and android.

5. Oh yeah, and i've tried updating the android OS over wifi (because it cannot connect to anything), but that doesn't work either.

Go to Settings>Storage, and list down exactly what it shows you there.

And for the PC, I assume you do have Kies for Windows (or Mac) installed on the PC?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah installed kies and all, didn't work either :/

Anyways it says:

SD card

Total space 29.31 gb
Available space 26.10 gb
Unmount SD card
Format SD card

USB Storage

Total space 11.00 gb
Available 9.18gb
Format USB storage

Device Memory

Available Space 138 mb

Are you still on the stock Android 2.3 for the Galaxy S2? Because if you are, there's your problem with the device memory just being 138MB.

I think I may have asked you to look at the wrong thing so please check the storage option in the task manager. Hold down the home button so you the recent apps, then there should be an option there to show memory or something. One of the tabs at the top of the screen should be storage. Could you show me what that says?

Anyway, if what I'm thinking is correct:

The SD card is irrelevant, but on 2.3, the onboard storage is divided into device memory and USB storage, and Device Memory is where the apps go. Moving the apps to USB storage won't help because part of them are still placed in Device Memory because that's the way how Android worked back then. This was fixed in Android 4.0. Although I don't know how you could have put Device Memory to 140MB when if I remember correctly it's supposed to be almost 2GB.

1. It's telling me that i dont have enough space.

Take a look at this topic.

2. I cannot connect my phone to the pc as it simply won't recognise it.

The required drivers for it to be recognised as removable storage should be installed alongside Kies.

I suggest uninstalling Kies (and any listed Samsung USB driver), downloading the most recent Kies version from Samsung's support site, and installing that.

3. I cannot transfer files to and from the phone via kies air, as it won't connect to my phone for some reason.

It never worked correctly for me, even if Kies itself did. :(

4. It gets stuck and restarts at least twice a day for no apparent reason.

This is quite possibly related to #1 above.

5. i've tried updating the android OS over wifi (because it cannot connect to anything), but that doesn't work either.

OTA updates for the S2 aren't very common afaik.

p.s. Moved topic to the S2 (International) forum for more input from users of the device.

total internal memory is 1.8 gb, but i have only 140 mb left, despite all the aforementioned measures. the version is 2.3.6 as you correctly suspected. trying to get an update. fingers crossed!
