Help Problem with making/receving calls

I've bounced between 3 forums (Motorola, Sprint, and here) trying to figure this issue out, and I think i've figured out a remedy until they officially release the update. First, I turn my phone off each night (a burden, but has seemed to work). Also, after bouncing between forums I installed a cache cleaning app and set the interval that it cleans to 1 hour. Now, I did just install this app today so it will take some time to see if it works but let's hope.

**Update: I've gone all day and have received a few calls as well as make calls. Looks like this might be a fix.**

**Update: Just fell into a "Ghost Call". Hoping the update comes quickly**

Figures....... I finally found the phone that I like and this bug pops up. So far I have only had one occurance. I have til the end of the month to swap it out before my 30 days are up.......

Yeah, I have till the middle of next month. But I was just thinking. WHat would I switch to? Haha

Good question, but in some ways I am willing to bet you could find a person having an issue like this with almost every phone out there. I was having a horrible issue with my EVO rebooting on me mid phone call almost consistently to the point I could predict it.

That's unfortunate because I guess the next best is the Evo 3D or the Galaxy S and sounds like they both have issues.

I've done the same thing. Looked at different forums and installed a cache cleaner. " App cache cleaner" to be exact. There are others. Installed it about 24 hours ago,so far so good. Will report back later.

Well let me say that I couldn't deal with the issues and they swapped me to an Evo 3D last night. I liked my Evo 4G better.... I miss my Photon 4g even with the call issues. That phone is way better IMO except for the call bug. This Evo 3D has poor reception, I am constantly roaming or no service where the Photon worked great. The speakerphone and earpiece volume are way better on the Photon. I really liked the push from the motorola servers too, I got all my emails just about instantly.

So..... Phone god.... Please make a fix for the photon before the 30th so I can switch back. I may switch back even without the fix...... Ugggg

To be honest, this is the first time that im gonna have to return a phone that I actually like alot. I missed a very important phone call because the person couldnt hear me. I called back but I had to go through many hoops to get back to the same person. I cant have this happening to me and I cant wait til after the 30 days and be stuck with this. Im just gonna go back and erase my upgrade and wait until something else or the bugs get fixed. sucks

So weird, I had to re-provision my voicemail right now. Prior to doing that, I had a couple voicemails that I wasn't aware of.

I had to turn the phone off, then back on, in order for it to connect the visual voicemail to the call-in voicemail.

Did you order through Sprint or a 3rd party? If it's through Sprint, it's my understanding that if you switch to a different phone (after you initially purchased another), you're only allowed to do that one time. In other words, you can't switch back back and forth from different phones within the 30 day trial.

Just as the title states, that exactly how I feel. I'm tired of having to reboot the phone to make a call and the inconsistency with which that is necessary. I'm tired of upon rebooting, occasionally having to wait until the phone is "ready" to do things like dial out or send a text. And above all else I'm tired of telling myself that I love everything else about it so much that I can live with it. Because I can't.

Sorry for my rant but I just went through about 10 minutes of turning off, battery pulling, profile updating and generally screen tapping what was basically a pretty paperweight. It still isn't sending my texts several minutes later. It's going back tomorrow and I will not try my luck at a 4th one.

I have finally been able to do a hard reset (the boot into recovery way, because the phone literally wouldn't let me do it from the settings menu) and I've at least been able to send a text now. Phone is still going back because no handset should have performed like this.

Sorry you are having so many problems.

I do not have any real solutions, just acknowledging your misery. My Photon has been solid with just a very few minor incompatibilities with some downloaded apps. (I had to power down and restart to get my 3g data back- no battery pull though).

Not sure what I would do if I was on my 4th phone and still pulling batteries to get it to make phone calls. I wonder if they would notice the gypsum board dust from throwing it through a wall when you turn it in for damage?

One of the questions I keep thinking when I read posts like yours, is why are you and may others having so many problems, and mine has been nearly problem free (knock wood). Here is my basic Photon information. Maybe something will help.

- I bought mine on July 31st at Best Buy.
-Just let it download my contacts and calender from Google and Facebook once I logged into these.
-I loaded lookout an quite a few other apps from market the first few hours.
-I put the 8g class 6 memory card from my HTC hero in the photon the first day. I have not re-formatted or overwritten the data on the card, and the photon could find and display/play the music and photos from the Hero.
-I put a cheap silicone protective case on the phone the second day I had it.
-The back cover on my Photon fits very very tightly and there are no squeaks or movement. Many have complained about this.
-The battery life was a little short the first couple of days. I let it run all the way down to a self shutdown and then connected it to the charger. This seems to have really helped the total battery life.
-When I connected the photon with my desk pc and had MS windows medial player running windows and motorola loaded a bunch of drivers and started a bunch of auto-syncing of my album files. Would have been nice if it had asked me if I wanted this.
-I do not live in an area with 4G so I normally turn it off. I am also in the hills with normally only one or two bars of signal, but the Photon normally does pretty well here. Better than the Hero.

Here are a couple of things I have seen discussed as "fixes" for the battery pull reset problem:
-New back battery cover from Motorola. This supposedly holds the battery more firmly in place and makes sure the battery has constant electrical contact.
-A pre-release of the next update for the Photon was leaked over at XDA. This supposedly improves the situation, but does not fix it for everyone. Also a bit risky to install early, but you are in an extreme situation.
-Some memory cards have caused problems. Often re-formatting in Photon helps. Not sure if the memory cards speed class has any effect here.

I love my Photon, but if I could not make calls I would be dumping it for even my ancient painfully slow Hero.

I hope you find a solution.

No, you can exchange the same phone as many times as needed if the phone doesn't work. I'm on my 3rd MoPho with the same issues.

If you give up and switch phones alltogether, say to an evo3d, you can only do that once.

I'm about to send the 3rd one back, reactivate my Pre, and reset my plan and upgrade. If the Photon gets fixed, I'll re-buy it then, if it doesn't get fixed, I'll consider other phone options...

wow, your 4th one huh? I thought you were only allowed one exchange with sprint?

Wow, I thought these phones would be solid. I've hated HTC since the first WinMo phone I bought 10 years ago. I was very happy to see Sprint put Moto phones on their network.

I am planning on getting the Photon if Sprint isn't in the September iPhone announcement...hopefully the issues will be fixed by then, I really am not impressed with the EVO 3D... :(

I appreciate the empathy. For the record, its actually only three Photons and I wasn't planning on trying my luck on a fourth, but apparently I woke up with a little more patience today. I'm going to take it in and try once again. I must be a glutton for punishment but I love the phone when its working. Hopefully this next one will be a keeper.

Since downloading the cache cleaner app,i haven't had the "ghost call" problem. Didn't do anything else special. Hopefully an ota update fixes it for real!!!

I "almost" feel guilty because mine's been pretty much perfect, before and after the leaked update.

+1 the two I have are issue free. Aside from the fact that I have no 4G, being unlocked. I don't live in a 4G area anyways...no biggie. Flashed our first custom ROM a few days ago, 99% issue free!

Hope you come up with a good device...imagine it's frustrating as hell.

Ugh, got about a week left and I have to decide if I want to keep this thing or not. It seems everytime I have the phone on for a while I just try to call my voicemail, no dice. Of course restarting the phone fixes this but still.
Any other words on updates? Id hate to turn this phone in, but the very little time I do use it to call I would like it to work :(

I'm with you. If there's no update by Thursday or Friday this phone is going back. I love the phone but I've been in situations where I needed to either make or take a call and no dice. I need a phone that can make a call.
