Help Problem with messaging on galaxy s2

vish001

Lurker
I have galaxy s2 (i9100LKAINU)
i have problems with receiving and sending messages when data network mode is switched on..
when the data network mode is switched on:
1.i do not get the messages that anyone has sent me
2.the messages which i send do ot get delivered
but as soon as i switch off the data network mode..the above two happen..
please provide a solution ..
p.s. i have given it to the service centre many times but in vain! and the software was also upgraded recently..nothing has been fixed!!

Check that the details in the APN settings (Settings/Wireless & network/Mobile networks/Access Point Names) is correct for your network operator.

SMS is not a data service so shouldn't be affected by this, but the loss of service when packet data is enabled appears to contradict this. Also, on the same page, what is set for Network mode?

yeah...the access point names was all set by the service provider himself...with his own hands...cuz i ad a problem with not receiving the right settings too!
n for network mode it is "gsm only"

SMS is not a data service ....

Is MMS data service?

I'm asking this because I'm new to Android and have an SII and an LG Optimus One. To send and receive MMS with the Samsung I have to have data turned on but not with the LG.

Sounds more like a problem with your network settings. Go back to your service provider and check with them. alternatively post your service provider and someone can check the settings on their phone if they are using the same service provider as you.

Cheers

Here are some apn for at&t I found.
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username:WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password:CINGULAR1
Server: leave blank
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC:310
MNC:410
APN Type: leave blank

I've got to check though, do you have the gs2 i9100 running on at&t or do you have the at&t variant. If you have the variant we have a forum here.

Samsung Galaxy S2 (AT&T) - Android Forums

I suppose even if you have the international it might be worth asking about your apn there as they will know more about it than me.

Sorry I'd probably ignore what I just wrote. Other people were on about mms but yours is all messages so that won't work. You will probably still need to get yourself over to the at&t forum and find out your message centre number. Open up your message app and press menu, settings and it will be there. I'm guessing its wrong.
