Help Problems after Android 4.03 Update

Lurker
Recently upated my Galaxy SII to 4.03 build IML74K.XXLPQ baseband I9100NELP2 and now my phone is massivle RAM hungry, displays my hotmail email account in text only, constantly loses my wifi conection and/ or wifi doesn't work intermittently, moves my home screen icons and deletes them randomly, won't keep it's voice command set up settings and starts from scratch every time I use VC and, my personal favourite, automatically logs you on to googlemail and it appears impossible to sign out unless you kill this application. Is this what constitutes an "upgrade" in Andriod land???

Welcome to Android Forums!

Sorry to hear you're having problems - I'll move this thread over to the Samsung Galaxy S2 (International) forum where it will be seen by other users of this particular handset. Hopefully somebody can offer advice.

Did you do a factory reset?
It could be data from Gingerbread messing with the ICS install.
A lot of new ROM random phone problems can be fixed with a factory wipe.
(disclaimer: It will wipe your data though so make sure it's backed up.)

Factory reset. Which dumped all my email settings even though I backed them all up. Not in my restore file it appears. No longer have a social hub icon either and there is another empty space where something was but no idea what. Can't set up email account now as it seems to not "like" my hotmail settings. Android 4.0.3 is rubbish. I will have one last attempt to restore my email settings then its either getting hit with a hammer or going on ebay and I'll revert to an iphone. This stuff should just work without all this frikkin about.

My once beloved and totally reliable Galaxy S2 has become a disaster of nightmare proportions in the last 2 days since making the mistake of accepting the Kies suggestion that I update. Where do I begin??

My contacts list was completely screwed and impacted my Outlook when I tried to sync it back - 3 hours to fix.

ALL of my desktop/homescreen icons/widegts, in fact EVERTHING disappeared to be replaced by icon for G-mail, Social Hub and various other Google apps

My CNN application no longer works. My AccuWeather application no longer works. My Call Recorder application no longer works. Various games no longer work. Disaster Alerts kind of works. Polaris Office is a thing of the past as well......and on it goes.

My once super reliable S2 now locks up and shuts down whenever it feels the need.

The bulk of my settings were changed to what some moronic developer at Google or Samsung thought were an acceptable set of settings.

................

As for any thought of a restore, back-out, reset etc - Ho ho ho. NOTHING worked. You can't back out!

IT IS MY DEVICE, NOT YOURS GOOGLE/ANDROID/SAMSUNG! I KNOW WHAT APPLICATIONS I WANT USE AND HOW I WANT TO USE THEM. I KNOW HOW I WANT MY PHONE SET UP. SO KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF.

Android and Galaxy were so good I completely dropped my iPhone and my iPad both personally and in the business where I am a CIO of a very large MNC where we are transitioning to Android devices. This has been put on immediate hold!

This experience suggests to me that I made a huge mistake adopting and trusting Android. You are obviously NOT ready for the real world and the business world yet.

If I did this in my business life this poorly with such negative impact and obvious lack of testing I would be sacked on the spot. As I write this I am seriously considering going back to Apple and "sacking" the whole Android/Samsung/Google world once and for all and putting it down to experience.

What a shame that all of your success (& power) went to your heads.

I share the feeling of disppointment after upgrading to ICS (no rooting or other short cuts, just ordinary update via WiFi when ICS was made available to me).

At first the battery was drained in three hours. However this was solved after doing a factory reset. I highly recommend everyone to do a reset before updating!

But still after factory reset I exprience annoying issuses. Some of them are related to different third party apps (all from Google Play, though), which I assume is because the apps aren't upgraded to be compatible with ICS?

The main disappointment relates to the fact tha my phone is slower rather tha faster after the upgrade, and even custom installed apps like calendar doesn't work properly. Amongst others both the preinstalled calendar app as well as the Calendar Pad Pro chrashes when I try to establish a simple appointment. This is malfunctioning of core functions of a smart phone which one should expect was tested thoroughly before launching.

All four in my family has this phone, but due to the issues after updating three of them, my daughters has put their updated Samsungs in a drawer and started using their old Iphone 3GS instead! I'm tempted to get my old HTC Desire back in business, but will not give in quite yet - hoping that the software issues in 4.0.3 soon will be fixed.

I agree. This is a FU****** nightmare come to life. I'm so pissed that if this "update" wont get a fix soon, my android is going under a hammer during the next month. I just cant operate with a phone which turns itself off whenever it likes. There are numerous bugs which drive me insane.

I've never update my phone and i downloaded at least three big installation packets a week ago, must have had some really old version. Is there any way to roll back the three updates i made to my phone? Since this really really really blows.

I see more people ugraded to ICS. I also experienced these issues and would gladly go back to gingerbread if there is a way. Although it's still ok, but the experience is worse now. Hope Samsung will release another update. Too many bugs and inefficiencies.

Very sad to hear so many issues with ICS upgrade. Unfortunately, the best advise is to do a factory reset to clear everything so that the upgrade is done in the most pristine environment possible.

After having the phone for awhile, there would be a lot of stuff in there that might clash and you can't expect Android to know what's in there. Also, because ICS is relatively new, and like all new firmware, it is a little buggy due to the many possible content and configuration in everyone's phone.

So the best is to do a factory reset, and if GB works fine, then stick with GB until a good and less buggy ICS comes out. And also when most apps would work properly with ICS. That's what I am going to do anyway.

I'm having a few problems after updating to ICS. First of all the scrolling through the menu is not as smooth as it used to be (except when browsing through the internet), some apps keep crashing and i have noticed today that switching through screen modes (dynamic, normal and movie) does nothing. Well it changes after i restart the phone but then returns back to normal and refuses to change again.

Are you guys flashing the right ROM for your phone? It has to be the 9100 only + for your region.

Also, a wipe after install is best before doing anything else.

I flashed XXLPQ (XEU) and its great. No issues apart from the email app not wanting to update occasionally.
Battery, wireless, network apps all work fine + the phone actually score higher now in performance tests than in GB.

I was with XXLPQ and it isn't very good i didn't download anything and it shows 600 RAM USED.There weren't any apps on.I reccomend to install official gingerbread 2.3.6 it is better than the ics.

Upgrade my acer a500 tab with 4.03 software my Wifi on my tablet is not connecting. tried resetting device more than onces, no go. My home router is working ok because all my other wifi devices works. Im hope that android will come up with a fix Soon.

This is an old thread, but since google gets me here for my search, I though I'd share my problems when upgrading...

1- All my icons were messed up, no more folders grouping icons, no more home pages stuff/widgets/wallpapers, had to reset everything.
2- Very bad wi-fi reception compared to before. At work, at my desk I now drop wifi many, many times where before it would never be an issue
3- Contact list completely messed up.. it syncs ALL my facebook contacts even though I ask to sync only with my existing contacts.
4- Samsung hub is 10 times worse than before. I can't edit my hotmail contacts, I can't move emails to different folders without using the menu key, I can't have the main screen come up when I press the hub icon (always gets me to the feeds, but I have no feed installed).. it will never get me back to my main page where you choose the account..

I will do a factory reset even though I think it's stupid. It will take me another few hours just to try and get my stuff back to normal.

I told my gf to NOT update her phone since it's a total mess.

I just updated my Galaxy S2 to ICS 4.0.3 and the email icon went missing. Can you please advice how to recover the email icon back ? I am not able to configure POP email as well.

my GS2 will keep on disconnecting from a connected wifi and then reconnect within 2 seconds after i had updated to the android 4.0.3 version :( , anyone can help me to solve this problem??

not sure exactly what update the phone had me do the other day but it messed w/ a few things..
1. got rid of my APP KILLER on my home screen
2. killed all my links w/ facebook/email/etc. have to log back into each one as i bring it up.
3. im thinking it must be a virus i downloaded cause my email tries to send spam to everyone in my hotmail contacts list over and over and over .. thank god they have all FAILED in sending...
really dont want to do full factory wipe but if i have to i will.... will i loose all my phone numbers ????
thanks
lance
