Help problems after OTA 4.1.2 upgrade

Recently had OTA upgrade of my SII GT-19100 to android 4.1.2 and nothing but problems since. The browser acts wierd, always opens on blank page and doesn't shut down properly, have to use task manager. Sometimes when a call disconnects the phone powers down! When the alarm goes off sometimes it only sounds for a couple of seconds then goes dead. These are just the problems found so far!

Is there away to go back to the previous version? I'm so sick of JB that I'd love to go back and then root to keep the ******** out!
 
Downgrading to ICS may not solve your problems stbiggles.

I would recommend going with Howard Hopkinson's suggestion in post #3.

Removed battery, cleaned contacts and replaced. Full factory rest then re-installed downloaded apps and synced contacts calendar etc back from Google.
The browser still operates the same, is this normal for 4.1.2? Always opens in "about blank", only get homepage when opening a second tab. Also closing all tabs no longer closes down browser, just reverts to a single "about blank" tab. I've noticed that the majority of apps no longer close but when you come out of them they continue to run in background. Have to constantly go into task manager to shut down apps.

Haven't noticed the old alarm problem yet but have already had one spontaneous power down. Not looking good.
 
No further power downs after 2 days but now email no longer syncs! Mail downloads and sends ok when I sync manually but auto sync totally gone. This applies to both standard email app and K-9. This is the biggest pain yet and really need a fix. Google sync still seems to be operating and Gmail works ok but that doesn't handle my other mail accounts.

Any suggestions as to a fix very graterfully received!!!
 
Found a fix for browser issues and apps staying on in background, go to Developer Options and check "do not keep activities". Apps now close fully on exit and browser opens in home page. No fix for email yet and that is my real issue at the moment. Could really use some help.

Personally, I have had no problems syncing email accounts, using K-9 email, on any of the JB firmwares I have used.

Having said that, there are threads on this and other forums from posters who have experienced such issues, for one reason or another...

Developer option setting prevents changing some settings and closer browser tabs after video etc. has been played so not ideal. Still no email
 
Have tried all the suggestions from your links but no success. the strange thing is the mail worked ok immediately after the update but then just stopped syncing. It actually started syncing again yesterday for a short while and has now stopped again. I'm beginning to think it only works when there is a wi-fi link enabled.
 
Enabled wi-fi and got sync almost immediately. Left wi-fi on and sent more mail from my pc but hasn't come through! Just doesn't seem to be any consistency here! I'm beginning to despair. :(
 
OK the following statements apply to the standard email app, haven't tried with any others. The background sync operates ok as long as you exit the app in certain ways:

1) developer option "do not save activities" allows the sync to run without the app showing as running in task manger (TM). This setting also affects the browser operation and prevents some settings (specifically email sync) from being changed. It also prevents a list of open applications appearing in TM.

2) With developer options disabled, exiting email app using the back key allows sync to run in the background and the app does not appear as running in TM.

3) Exiting the email app with the home key allows the sync to run as long as the app appears in TM running list. If TM is used to close the app the background sync stops.

One of the problems I have with the update is that when exiting apps most of them appear in the TM running list. I have been closing these apps down with TM to conserve battery, pretty much manual task killing, and this has been stopping the background email sync.

I've tested and retested the above and it appears to be consistent, will try running with the developer option on for a while and see how it goes.
