Help Problems connecting evo to pc

I can connect my evo to my laptop but I can't select a drive. When I select one of the drives that should be my phone, It wants to try to format the drive. Is my only option to get a micro sd adapter and save all my info on the micro sd and then format it? If I try other ports it comes up as f: drive and when I try clicking on it, it says please insert drive. Thanks

Probably not the phone. The phone will ask you whether you want it to appear as a drive or not to your computer. Did you select that option on your phone?

Yes I did. My phone used to connect just fine. I'm sure its not the phone. It works when I connect it to my buddies laptop.

I have tried other ports. Just not seeming to have any luck.
