Root Problems flashing custom ROM

Yes titanium backup, go for the pro version it's worth it as it will restore all apps in one go rather than asking you after every app in the free version. The best app on the market for rooted users imo.

hi
cool. Congrats :-)
did you do the custom hboot too?

I've just flashed the kernel to manu 1,4 as it is supposed
to give better battery. its on the xda dGB thread

cheers

Not tried the custom hboot yet, just the ROM, I'm sure I'll get round to it at some point though. Likewise with flashing the kernel, although I've already noticed a significant improvement in battery life.

1.4 is definitely the better kernel. You flash it in the same way, no need to wipe or anything though. Always take a nandroid backup before flashing anything.

thanks Dan :)

yup did the usual pre flash procedure aprt from all the wiping :D

too early to see any battery improvements i feel. but fingers crossed.

i did think that Titanium was a bit confusing. couldnt even find backup button at first! :D

This may be a completely noob question, but the only way I know how to flash hboot is through unrevoked, is there a better way?

EDIT: I've been playing around in fastboot and recovery for a while and can't see any other way.

You cant flash a hboot via unrevoked. Are you s-off? You need to be s-off for flashing hboots.

See the fastboot faq available via my signature (displays once per page)

Ah, thank you, no I don't have S-OFF. Looks like this will have to wait till I get home from work in that case.

Ok, here's an update: I got S-OFF using alpharev, then used android flasher to flash the dGBrSU 60 hboot. I then flashed the ManU 1.4 kernel, and now it seems my SD card has been wiped?

Does this mean all my backups have gone (stupidly I didn't transfer them to my computer)? It's not the end of the world, but it is rather annoying. I'm thinking my next step is just to install dGB again and start from scratch, unless there's any better way to sort it out?

We found sometimes if you flash and your sd card file system is a bit dodgy, it wipes the card. Happened to me a few times. Managed to get some stuff back with handy recovery (link in ultimate toolbox thread)

Right, all sorted I believe.

I managed to recover most of my data with handy recovery. Once it was back on the SD card, I flashed the dGB ROM again, but when I rebooted it was still the old install of it, so I went back into recovery, formatted system, data and cache, flashed the ROM again, and rebooted. Once I restored everything through google and titanium backup, I noticed that the kernel version didn't match with manU 1.4, so I re-flashed that, and it looks like everything is okaly-dokaly! System ROM is 62.9 MB (356 kB free), internal is 390 MB (279 MB free).

Thanks for all your help :)
