Root problems in the installing ROM process

im not giving up hope lol just yet i will not let it defeat me

hopefully i can do something to it when this 2.1 gets to me
 
when doing the heroimg method

what exactly does main version is older (update failed) mean

main version of ROM?
 
hi xyro and slug im back lol

right now i have 2.1 update 1

will i be able to put a cust ROM on lol

if so do i do the same methods i have been doing or xyro didnt you say there was a different way to do it

Well, there are a few things that might work now you've got 2.1.

This is the thread that they come from.

- Try this app, which apparently can root 2.1 Heroes.

- Then find 'ROM Manager' in the market, install it, and tell it to install the clockwork recovery menu.

Fingers crossed one of those two things will work.
 
lol yeah im back and if it dont work this time i will seriously give up . i will try what you just put after footie has finished which will be in about 50 mins so i will let you know

oh just thought i cant download anything from market since update

Well, which custom ROM do you want? Villain12 would be my choice of 2.1, or Froyd Villain if you want 2.2 (but bear in mind, it is stock android, without HTC Sense).

Once you've decided, back up your current ROM and then tell it to flash the new one.
 
i downloaded villain12 when we 1st started so i still got that but i changed it to update because we tried going down that root

and yeah it seems to have worked woooooooooo lol we have got twice as far in 1 hr than the last 2 weeks lol

so shall i name it back to villain or leave it as update and in zip folder , put on root and click install ROM from sd
 
Leave it as update.zip and tell the ROM manager to flash it.

Once you've got a custom ROM on, you may as well switch to a much better recovery image that isn't picky about them all being called update.zip. Makes it easier if you need to flash more than one thing at once.
 
ok when i clicked on install from sd card i choose the update , its now giving me 3 options , data/ meta-inf/ or system/

im taking it i choose system ?

is that right
 
yes i been busy lol

gave up on the footie we were getting stuffed so back to getting a ROM on seemed like a more happier solution
 
I'm not sure; I've never used the clockworld recovery menu.

Just backup everything you can :P Each one if possible.

Not that you'll ever really need it, if everything goes to plan.

EDIT: Sorry, looks like I didn't read what you said properly. Slug's right, you want to flash the .zip as a whole, not in bits.
 
ok i got to where it says back up rom which i have done then it said wipe data and cache on clockwork mod and it said it would boot into recovery , well it did but there is not 1 option there ,

where can i get a decent recovery image from ?

zip is now zipped lol it was opened but when i get to recovery screen i have no options

so how can i get the options up

here we go more problems lol
 
Hey, progress is progress.

I don't know clockworld well enough to understand what's going on there. You can't go wrong with the amon ra recovery menu though.

Did you root with the app I linked to before? Not sure if you can install amon ra without it. (Although ROM Manager did it so...)

EDIT: You can install it using adb (and we know how well that went last time), or using a the 'Terminal Emulator' app.
 
yeah i did root with app you said

if i put that ra recovery do i have to open cmd and do that adb>su>mount-a>ra-recovery

Put the recovery image on the root of the sdcard.

Turn off the phone, boot into recovery by holding Home + Power. The clockword screen should pop up.

Plug the phone in via USB and open command prompt.

Then type:

cd C:\android\tools\ (If that's still where you have adb.exe)
adb remount
mount -a
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1.img

One line at a time, then hit enter. You know the drill :P
