Root problems rooting my admire

i am on 2.3.6
and that looks kinda complicated , would you mind explaining exactly what i am supposed to be doing

there lies the problem lol the method you were doing is for 2.3.4. and its really simple actually, its already been simplified as much as possible within the thread. just follow the instructions. ill assume you dont have CWM installed so you follow the link within that thread and it guides you through the process. its very easy my friend, there are also a few vids on youtube on the CWM installation process for the Admire

is it worth it though, i rooted my last one and it got ****** up. im a real noob with the whole rooting business.

all devices have different rooting methods. also the rooting methods for the admire dont really have any risks cause they are very simple to do and very straight forward. I myself think it is worth it but really only you can decide that, do you want to debloat? do you want use apps that require root?

also just an fyi if you dont already know dont use rom manager on this phone

yeah i have seen that rom manager doesnt work, i have read a lot of the forums. but is the only way to root my phone with CWM?? or is there some other way

there only two ways to root the admire. one way for the 2.3.4 and the 2.3.6
if any other way existed we would know about it my friend. if you are worried about having CWM then dont fret, there is a way to remove it back to what it was before you installed CWM. in the 2.3.6 root thread look for post 99, its on the second page all the way at the bottom. ive already explained it and provided the link so you can just read a few comments ahead

well i might be getting another phone, what phone would you reccomend if i do? it will probably be another metro phone, or a verizon.

well im not trying to tell you what to do but if it where me, id root it and keep as a fun phone, you know download apps and such on it. text free+, kik, etc, angry birds. thats just what id do though. in fact i tried to get my friend admire so i could actually do that xD

if you want to customize the phone then definately root it and leave CWM on it. you can really visualize it like that, just go look at some of the corresponding roms and themes that go with those roms

i just want a phone with better service mostly, and more space for apps

rooting can help clear space casue then you can download apps that can uninstall those pesky metro apps that no ones uses. you can also partition your sd card(the bigger size the better) and use links2sd which can allow you to have nearly 90 apps on the admire. imagine that, 90 apps on this phone that has very little internal space running 90 apps. as for services only the the phone carrier can provide that lol

i may root it again. when i have the patience to do all the steps. thx for all the help.

no problem, its why were here. also the steps go by pretty quickly. i would say it would take no less then 10 mins to root and install CWM. just make sure to read everything right

thats the only thing that scares me, i dont wanna make a wrong move and have my phone explode or become a sentient self aware being that wants to control the world or something.

ok i rooted it, now what should i do?

install CWM and then use it to make a backup, youll be able to restore the phone if you cause your phone to get soft bricked. if you want to debloat, then look for apps just as Titanium Backup or Root Uninstallers. look here the apps that are safe to install: http://androidforums.com/admire-all-things-root/412650-safely-removeable-bloatware.html

also look around in here: http://androidforums.com/admire-all...ll-things-root-guide-updated-9-28-2012-a.html
find a nice rom that youll like and maybe give it a shot once you are comfortable trying to flash a rom, the worst that could happen is a soft brick but then you could always just reflash the rom the correct way or use the backup you made earlier

Clockworkmod is the a custom recovery that lets us flash roms but yes in this case is what you use to root the 2.3.6

First, download the ROM you want (preferably on wifi).

Second, your going to want to put it anywhere on your SD Card.

Then, your going to want to boot into CWM by pressing and holding Volume Down, Back, and Power.

Depending on your rom, it will need CWM 5.0.2.7 or CWM 5.0.2.8. One has RFS file system the other has the EXT4 file system. EXT4 is faster.

It should look like this:

Now, using Volume Up and Down to go up and down and home to enter, your going to want to go to "Wipe data/factory reset" and hit "Yes."

Now you're going to go to "Mounts and Storage" then go to "format /system" and press "Yes."

Then go to "Install zip from SD Card" and find the folder you have the rom in and press home to select it and find your rom inside the folder and press home again to select the rom zip then press yes.

Lots of random stuff will show on your screen. Wait til it says "Install from SD Card complete" then press back and then shortly after press enter to reboot your device and enjoy your new rom.
