problems with app updating

I am wondering if this is the way market updates are supposed to work.

I have an Optimus V, not rooted. About very other day I get the notification that some of the apps have available updates. I hit the notification and it lists about five apps that have updates available. I don't care to update Google Maps (hogs too much of the limited available memory), Point, Where, Scavenger (those three I never use) but do want to update some of the apps I use frequently.

I select one of the apps to update and the update goes seemingly fine but then instead of being brought back to select a different app to update I always get a forced closure message.

It doesn't seem logical that this is the way it should work. Do I have a problem and is there a reasonable work around solution?

I saw that there is an app at the market that is called App Update Notifier. Looks like it would be something helpful. But reading the reviews it seems like most users either don't like it or started by liking it and then determined that it doesn't work.

Any thoughts on what I can do to update the apps I want updated while avoiding updates that I don't want?

TIA

Turn off auto sync in your settings. Go to the market and select the my apps section. Go thru all the apps and make sure "auto update" is not checked.
When you have a data connection the market will let you know when you have updates. Just update the ones you want.
