Help Processors?

Hi All

Just need to know how I would check what background apps I'm running . . . . and what is using my battery while in idle mode?

None rooted device aswell

Thanks

For running applications go to Menu>Settings>Applications>Running Services.
To find out what is using your battery go to Menu>Settings>About Phone>Battery Usage

Is it possible to stop certain programs running from start up?
Or is this only on rooted devices?

Also I'm in two minds on wether to root my fone :(

If anyone can give me a link to a tutorial which is clear and works that would be great . . .

Im a tmobile UK user . . . .I'm really not sure what to do

Its quite simple when someone explains it or when you have done it once. Go to menu>settings>about phone and what is your kernel version?

You should use the KF3 Kernel here
When you have downloaded that unzip it and you will have a .tar file.
Download odin from the root guide and open it.
Click the PDA button, and select .tar file you just unziped
Put your phone in download mode (power off the phone then hold volume down key, home key and power key. When you see the warning screen press volume up to continue)
Connect the phone to your computer.
Make sure repartition is NOT checked (in odin).
Wait for the phone to connect (yellow box will appear under ID:COM in odin)
Click the START button
Wait for the phone to reboot and your done.

When you are rooted you will notice when you boot up you get a yellow triangle on the splash screen. This does not effect the phone in any way but if you want to get rid of it follow this guide here:

Simple when u say it like that :P

Thanks for that . . .

Will this wipe anything from my phone?

Or how I've set up my home screens?

Thanks again . . .

I must admit I'm very wary on rooting my phone, and I've been in the IT business for years.
Is Odin free?
How can I tell for sure that it is the correct .tar file that I would be rooting with? Is the file specific to country and network operator? Is there a particular site I can go to that will tell me what is the firmware download file that is applicable to me.
What benefits would rooting give exactly?

I personally have decided to give rooting and flashing roms a miss on this phone.

When I got this phone, I decided it was time to root and flash roms on my old HTC Desire, as I had nothing to lose. Everyone was saying how amazing custom roms were, and how much better a rooted phone was with custom ROMS, boy where they wrong lol.

My Desire was much better stock, and now I am stuck with a HTC Desire I Can't return back to it's original state and is equal, if not a little worse than it was when I bought it.

Can't say that this amazing, relatively bug free phone, would gain any benefits at all from rooting.

/My opinion.

The tar files are not country or network specific just find the one that matches your kernel version. It will look something like this 2.6.35.7-I9100BOKF3-CL255512
root@DELL101 #2 Its the bit in bold you need to look out for. Find the relevant CF root file in this case its KF3. If you are struggling post your kernel version and I will help you out.

I have Android version 2.3.3
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100BVKG3-CL344296
root@DELL103#2
Build number GINGERBREAD.BVKG3

Does Kies update just one of these above, or all 3?

Are you after rooting yes? If so you need this file (KF1)
Follow the guide in my signature.

steslatt - thanks for the rooting guide.
I am a bit confuse the diff between Rom and kernel.
a) there are many diff ROM out there. CM7, MIUI, Darky, Villain, etc - what is your recommendation?
b) there are also many diff version of kernel, KF1,KF2,KF3, etc.. - is the version depending on the ROM? What is the benefits of upgrading the kernel?

tks

I can recommend Villain Rom. I have tried a few other and always came back to villain because it is stable and I get decent battery life.
Yes you should get a Kernel that matches the rom. Villain comes with ninphetamine kernel.

Hi

I am totally new to this.
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII that I want to root.
I am struggling to find a match for my Gingerbread Kernel which is:
2.6.35.7-I9100BVKG3-CL344296

Can anyone point me to the correct file to use - I am struggling on matching up the letters in bold..
