Profiles: The only thing I miss from BB

One thing I miss about my blackberry... back in... well... the stone ages, was the ability to customize different profiles (ringer/vibrate/volumes) for different occasions. Say, at bedtime I only want calls to ring, not texts, and during meetings I want no sounds, and sometimes I want just vibrate. I had a profile for different kinds of settings... and I miss that.

Ok, rant over. Stay calm and Droid on.

I'm not sure which carrier you are on but to unlock the phone and flash a different Rom on it isn't that hard. Doing so would give you the profiles option in settings.

Everyone I've used has had that ability.

Edit: you could also set up NFC tags with what you want to happen at certain places. IE: one nxt to your bed to put the phone into a silent mode, or getting in the car to automatically start a music player, turn on bluetooth etc.

It would only take a swipe next to the tag to work.

Agreed but you can do pretty much the same thing on Android using an app instead of settings built into the OS. I recently came across this little app that works brilliantly:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=Orion.Soft&hl=en

I like to receive calls at night but not texts or emails. This does the trick. Takes a little playing with it to figure out how to set up ongoing profiles but once you have it done, sit back and enjoy.

I've complained about this before... I miss the custom ring/vibe profiles from BB. I just feel like it should be built into the OS, I shouldn't have to download an app for that... but whatever. I got over it.

custom rings dont seem to work very well on the GNex, although I havent paid attention to it in JB yet. Maybe the custom rings work better.

Hmm. I do have NFC tags... I will try those... and that would be easier than tweaking a setting or using an app. I don't know why I didn't think of that!

It is a point/counterpoint thing. Android could have full customization of everything in sight, but that would probably lead to more bugs. Besides, some people could care less about it. Know the best way to resolve the issue? The hundreds of apps that will go to whatever level of customization that you want. :)
