Root Pros & cons needed in having 2.2.1 vs 2.2.2

Hi all, I currently have the option of keeping my 2.2.1 Optimus V or exchange it for a newer 2.2.2 version. I Know there were some changes in 2.2.2 most specifically tethering.

I understand 2.2.2 still has the ability to tether via usb connection not wifi but I'm wondering if 2.2.2 can be "downgraded" to 2.2.1? I understand that tethering is against TOS & to be honest I won't be using that at all much with me having wifi in the home BUT if I'm ever in a situation like I was at one time working out of state without internet I might use it to check email & such briefly.

I just want to know what are the pros & cons of having 2.2.1 vs 2.2.2, were there more items blocked in 2.2.2 & such? This'll help me decide which phone I want to keep around. Thanks bunches.

The biggest problem with 2.2.2 is most have the Hitachi screen from the optimus S.
This means your severely limited in what recovery's and ROM's you can use. But the ones that are out there are as good as they get. A newer phone means you can go farther before having to replace it due to failure.
Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

ooo, I didn't know the newer ones came with cheaper screens. That might tip my decision towards just keeping my older phone.

i think they're cheaper. the color response is not proper on whites, they look blue or green instead of white.
on the 2.2.2, no fastboot. 2.2.1 has fastboot access.

Thanks for the fastboot info. It might come in handy when helping a member.

Did not know that about the colors I just bought two but haven't opened them up. That's a bit of a disappointment.

the color discrepancy isn't horrible, and it's only really obvious side-by-side next to a novatek screen... my new one looks greenish, my woman's new one is bluish.

@Andyopie: i was really disappointed to find the bootloader locked on the newer ov's.
so much so I'm selling the new one i bought after the used one which works fully arrives in the mail.

the bootloader is the first thing that runs when you turn on the phone.
it then starts your rom, or recovery, or the fastboot access.
the newer firmware blocks the 3rd option.
fastboot is used to flash .img files, or a kernel and ramdisk file together, without using recovery, adb, or terminal.

Ahhh... thank you for the explanation! :)
