Pros/Cons of HTC Rezound vs. Galaxy Nexus

I posted this in the Razr thread (was either short on time or too lazy to look for this thread, I can't recall), which if the rumors are true about a 16 GB version being released prior to a 32 GB version, good luck to the diehard Nexus crowd trying to convince themselves that it's the must have phone.

One of the reasons I'm already counting on the Nexus to bomb is when I downloaded some 720p content onto the phone. At 3-4 GB per movie, the storage in the Nexus isn't going to last long. If I had bought the rumored 16GB Nexus, I'd already be out of luck. This is with only ONE 720p movie installed, a bunch of songs (not all the songs I have), and a few apps.

This looks like the Rezound's storage.

I'm liking my rezound very much and agree with what has been said, BUT, I'm looking forward to ICS and some of its features, especially combined with sense 4.0.

Also, I'm disappointed that vlingo still isn't working on rezound and hope that gets fixed soon.

I have three letters why IMO both ICS and HC are less user friendly: MTP.

It absolutely sux compared to GB for data transfer.

My Flyer is perma GB for the win :)

Are we getting sense 4.0? I thought htc upgraded the OS but not the version of sense

I'm using Speaktoit on my Rezound and it's working fine. Haven't tried Vlingo, actually.

ICS doesn't require MTP. The only reason Nexus does is that its whole internal memory space is one big partition shared with the running OS/apps, and UMS requires exclusive low-level access to a partition.

Other phones either have separate internal partitions or expose UMS access to the partition on the microSD card. I don't know anything about Honeycomb, but it might be the same.

Normally I wouldn't expect HTC to update the version of Sense because historically they do not do that. But in this case because ICS is very different from Gingerbread, it's not too far fetched to believe that a new version of Sense will come with it.

If I understand what you're saying correctly, then we shouldn't have any issues on the Rezound compared to the Nexus or even the original Incredible, since it seems that the on board storage is partitioned separately for the the OS/app storage. What I mean is when viewing the fie system in a file manager like Astro, the on board storage is under sdcard, and the actual microsd card is under ext sdcard. That sound right? So in that case we shouldn't have to worry about needing to use MTP right?

That sounds exactly right to me. Unless HTC's process for updating to ICS on the Rezound combines multiple partitions into one (and I don't think they'd do that risky operation on a customer device), Rezound w/ICS should behave exactly as it does now when connecting to a Windows/Mac/Linux box.

As I understand it, the main reason that Nexus has the unified partition is better use of space. Of the 32GB internal memory, instead of reserving say 4GB for OS/apps and 28GB for user data, you'd be able to use the full 32GB for whatever mix of OS/apps and data that you like. Probably even more needed on the 16GB UK version of the phone.

After roughly 2 weeks, is there anything more that can be said about this phone? Does anyone regret getting it? I am seriously considering this phone in place of my Blackberry with AT&T and jumping to VZ. At least I will have 14 days to play with since there is $0 activation now. It looks like this is the most advanced Android device with best specs in VZ now. (I don't really care for RaZR's sharp looks).

Any feedback would be appreciated.
I don't exactly regret buying this phone (it's great) but I've been waiting for "the other shoe to drop" and yesterday I wonder if it had. . . . .

To put it short, I didn't charge it overnight and MAY have left it on. By the morning, my phone was dead. I charged it up in the car while at work for about 5 min but that was pretty useless, phone died 5 min later. I went out that evening and tried to turn on my phone while charging on the way to my event. . . no dice (wouldn't even turn on). Tried turning it on all the way home while charging. .. phone would recycle off and on and kinda get stuck on the home screen.

Once I got home I put it on the house charger. That's where things REALLY got weird. . . . after a good hr or 2 on the charger, I tried turning the phone on and it kept recycling again! I took off the back and took out the sd card then left the back off and replaced the battery. . . .it worked! Then I put the sd card back and put the back back on. . . .it kept recycling on and off again! I took the back off, IT WORKED! I kept experimenting with using the phone with the back on and off and while the phone back was off it worked, but while on I got the recycle issue. I finally turned the phone off and charged it all night. This morning I turn it on and kept the back on. . . .IT WORKED! SOMETHING is definitely wrong but I doubt Verizon retailers have seen this yet. . . .got to keep an eye on this for the next week or so (my extended battery and extended battery back come in the next 3 days so we'll see what happens).

Has anyone has seen this type of issue???

Does it work with the back off and the sd card in, or does the sd card have to be out as well? If that's the case maybe the sd card is corrupted.

If not, it's possible that the contacts on the back cover aren't lining up correctly or there is something on one of the contacts preventing a good connection. That's all I got for you.

A few other folks have reported similar issue (corrupted sd card causes reboot cycle). I wonder if the heat from the battery is causing issues with the card. You could try putting the card in a card reader and checking if it is totally corrupted. Could also reformatting it.

Anywyas I think I've seen 5 or 6 incidents similar to this one (across different forums) to suggest a possible issue either with the cards themselves or heat from the device/battery interfering with the card (pure speculation on my part as 130F should be fine).

I guess we've seen some releases where multiple users reported bad SD card formatting out of the box (fixed by re-format) while others were just fine. Example, there was evidently an entire batch of Evos that way, so I wouldn't discount the possibility, fwiw.

The more and more I play with the Rezound, it is growing on me. If the GN is made like the GSII, then I will likely go with the Rezound. The Samsung phones feel too plastic-e and cheap in the hand to me. The Rezound feels more solid and built better in the hand.

No regrets here. Rezound rocks. The couple of times it's hung up on something, I touch the power button to put it to sleep, then touch it again to wake it back up- Presto, good as new, no power cycling or hard reboots required.

I'm curious to see how GN comes out, but to me, Sense is an intuitive package that improves the interface. With this much horsepower, there's no lag or stuttering at all. Add the screen quality, and I really agree with the poster above who called this a "sleeper" hit. It's been under-marketed thanks to the Motorola-VZW-Google circle-jerk, but the Rezound is a worthy successor to the Incredible.

Fixed ;)

HTC Vigor to be the HTC ThunderBolt 2 while the Samsung DROID Prime replaces the Droid Charge

The only thing that is keeping me interested in the Nexus is the NFC feature (if it happens to take off) and also the zero shutter lag on the camera. That's about it. Otherwise, the Rez has exceeded all my expectations.

All HC devices use MTP.

So I thought of one pro of the rezound over the nexus that no one has stated... The nexus is still not released whereas the rezound is.

I wish i could thank your post twice. Instead, all i can do is repost it as a quote in my post and thank you for putting this out there. I'm really getting sick of people assuming the nexus is the be all end all of phones when it hasn't even hit the market yet. Going to the "nexus vs rezound" threads are even worse with blatant...and i hate to use the term but it's amazingly appropriate here... "Fanboys" that will go out of their way to trash every other phone that ISN'T the nexus. Reminds me a little too much of iPhone cultism.

Most other groups of us that like the rezound or razr or anything else can at least sit back and admit "i love my phone, but i'm sure yours is cool too". This attitude is needed more

No. This attitude of "I paid 300 so I now have to defend my purchase at all cost" can be found in all 3 forums. It's inherent human nature, you just have to learn to ignore it.

You prefer the Rezound, while I have no desire to own another HTC/Sense product. To each their own.
