Help Push email on Galaxy 551

The perfect phone for you
Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro 2
Flipkart.com: Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro SK17i: Mobile

All the features you need .Just wait for a week :D

Well, my priorities to select a model are:
Need to have-
Push email
Document editor(Excel, Word, etc.)
Atleast 3" capacitive touch screen
Good looks, design
Social networking, IMs
Good Internet experience
Good apps to improve work and personal life productivity
Low SAR value
Business related apps

Nice to have-
Physical QWERTY(actually it is need to have but choice is very limited)
Multimedia features
Front camera

The best according to me.My previous three phones and ( currently one) are SE .
When I brought this phone SE midrange was dated and X10 mini pro was too small (and girly) for me .
SE mini pro2 come with 2.3 which is a nice system .The processor is awesome ,keyboard is there and front cam too .A steal at 15K .Damn if I had 15K right now I would gladly trade my phone for it :) .

Plus the care centre of Sony is decent my old phone was repaired in two days flat .Unlike samsung who take a month

It is really hard to believe on other phones than Nokia and Samsung.

Could you please check my other post in this forum? http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/382113-how-android-can-change-lives.html

Karan,

One important thing. In Android, is email service is a real push email(Blackberyy like) or push "like" email? Do we have to forward all our other emails to our gmail ID to push the emails into our mobile device?

Please clarify.

Yes it does
You can manually set the sync time or push it .
There are usually two apps for mail.
Alternatively you can use K-9 mail app to sync different mail accounts in a collective inbox.

Btw it's an android .Droid is a brand name of Verizon for their android lineup .

Depends on you tastes . :D
Both flavors available
Push "like " also
and Direct push mail also
Depends on email app you install :D
variety variety thats what is android
K-9 supports almost all accounts .It has a unified inbox and is real push for all accounts

Good. That means I do not have to forward my yahoomail to gmail and then push those emails to my mobile. RIGHT? My all email accounts counted to 1k emails per day.

Another thing, how much we should concern about SAR value of mobile?

I have 300-400/day in one account so I am not at liberty to comment .
keep two apps
One for yahoo
One for gmail
easy easy
or use K-9 and keep a unified mailbox

I dont give much Importance to SAR value .anything below 1.6 is ok
The max SAR value for 551 is 0.375 (pretty low ) which is nice (very nice).
Actual is lower than the max.
Lower the radiation lower the long term effects.

Karan,

This phone has small screen 3". Will it affect performance of some apps and games?

Nope 320 x 480 resolution is enough .Games and apps are also processor related .1 Ghz snapdragon is very nice.Games and apps are already optimized for 320x480 resolution .
It's not the screen size that matters .It's the resolution.
Samsung uses 240x400 for 551 which is unorthodox and we are left out .:(

Thanks for your continued help Karan!

Well, when I see any SE mobile its body built seems very delicate, porne to damage if it falls. Other mobiles(Samsung & Nokia I know so far) are rough and tough and does'nt harm much even if it falls down(mostly Nokia).

How do you think about SE mobile's body built quality?

Let see I have a SE K810i and it slipped through the lift vent from sixth floor and was smashed in the ground and it still works .Only scratches/dents ,not even cracks .It works still .I also have a SE T230i which is 7 years old and still works and has handled all sorts of damages.
So sony are as sturdy as the other two.
Samsung back panels are one of the cheapest ,thin and wafer like .While sony back panels are firm and nice .

I will just repeat something I mentioned earlier in other thread .
The phone will be your companion for two years .Dont buy phone just because someone (including me ) says to buy. Go to the store ,get a feel of the phone and then buy it .Else you will end up complaining all the way about how you were cheated and how much the phone didn't meet your expectations.

Different people have different expectations and choices .I like SE from beginning,,that is why my bias to it.I have a poor customer experience with samsung ,thats why my bias against it.

In contrast Galaxy mini/S/S2/Ace will have high regard for samsung phones .

In the end ,how you like the phone at that particular moment matters.i went to buy Optimus One and ended up with 551.Smooth salesmen that shop had.

I am "researching" so much because I have'nt seen, used Android phone, neither my friends have such phone. So I have to rely on the information from reliable person like you.

It would have been easier to decide if I could get a chance to use Android phone for a while to get first hand experience. And I do not see any possibility for that. Therefore, lots of questions, confusion in my mind. Anyway.

karan,

Few questions on Android Push email:

1. In how much time email comes to our mobile?
2. If we send email from our mobile, does it get saved in sent folder on the mobile or original folder in email account or both?

1.) at time email enters your account .provided you have WORKING data connection(EDGE/3G/HSDPA)
2.)It gets saved in your account it gets saved in the sent folder if your account has one .

Thanks! Will it work on GPRS?

Yes GPRS-EDGE . It works flawlessly .All GPRS are EDGE in India .
Tested for over 10000+ emails and in three states and more than 40+ populace including 3 capitals,5 cities ,3-5 towns ,3+ villages and one metropolis.
Tested on two service providers .

Hi Karan,

Now I focused my phone search on following two models:

1. Sony Xperia mini pro SK17i
2. Samsung Google Nexus S

Some points revolving in my mind for both models are:

SE- Compact size(may be small for viewing websites), low company reputation, physical keyboard.
Nexus- Big size 4"(good for web viewing though), Google support, no physical keyboard.

Hope to decide any one of the above soon. Would like to give your comments?

BTW, what else do you do? Where do you live?

THanks!

That will depend on your priorities and choice
Do you Browse internet more or type more ?
Nexus S will ensure regular updates .
The SE has a QWERTY .
Nexus S is more powerful .
Nexus S has a limit of 16 GB space (no sd card slot/on board)
SE has 32 GB SD card slot

Karan,

I do have regular access to PCs, Laptop and good internet connection at office and home. So, not much dependent on mobile.

But, whenever I have to use mobile for internet, email, documents, I prefer QWERTY over full touch.

Though Nexus is good its size is 4" plus the total device length is more than that. So I think it is uncomfortable to keep it in pant pocket, ride bike, risky to keep in shirt pocket.

Do you have any reviews, feedback for SE Mini Pro to share with me?

+1
I use my phone for typing.QWERTY is now an absolute must for me now.
I rarely browse on phone unless absolutely necessary .

It's too early to comment about the Mini pro .Two reasons
1.)New users are poor reviewers
2.)The professional reviews use only for a today which gives us a half baked review.

Hardware wise it looks pretty awesome .

Things have changed since yesterday though

Google took over motorola and
Samsung got Steve "cyanogen" Kondik

So what happens next in android world will totally be unexpected.

Review I got so far for Mini pro is of poor battery life(1200 mAmp)

Nexus S seems not available in my city.

Thats what I meant by poor review
All Androids in beginning have poor battery life .
They improve as you customize .
The addition load of keyboard back light is also present .

Well Did you check Motorola Milestone 2 or the HTC Desire Z. Both are rare options though.
