Putting to rest the myths about Task Killers/RAM Optimizers and the like

You are not supposed to need to manually close apps, use task killers or worry about RAM, running processes, etc.

And I don't. I let Android handle everything automatically as intended. All of our devices run smoothly, reliably and battery drain is fine. We just use them.

Now, if an app is poorly coded, you're running an old, outdated version of Android or a low-spec device all may not be so nice. But on reasonably capable hardware and Android 4 or above, trying to micromanage operation is often counterproductive or worse. Task killers are particularly evil.

DUSB is simply snake oil. Worse than worthless, it's eating your battery. Uninstall it!

I have noticed that some games like MORTAL KOMBAT X refuse to close
For this purpose I use a task killer just to close an indinidual app.

Have you tried force stopping it with the built-in task manager?

You can get to it easily with System Panel.

If that doesn't work, then what's the app up to?

Im sure that works too but I wouldn't know it was still running if not for looking in my task manager.

Yeah. You would.

Otherwise I wouldn't have suggested System Panel.

In fact, you'd know better than by looking at most built-in task managers.
Well I guess one way I know its still running is I can hearvthe game music even when the apps closed.
If you kill a controller with a service left running, the service does exactly that.

Dont feel bad guy I was all about killing background apps running aswell. but tbese guys knw what tbeyre talkin about I assure U.

Ya, I use to uninstall the built in taskmanagers, but I've noticed how handy it can be to force stop any app/apps running in the background. Also Xposed framework has quite a few usefull apps, I like Deep sleep battery saver along with greenified. I was getting really horrible battery life for a while, I put Deep sleep battery saver in my line up last night and changed the settings on Freedom kernel wich is to be used with XperionROM on LG F3 & F6. I think I found a good combination battery's been going strong for hours of hard use. GOOD BYE DU & the rest of you battery vampire apps!!!

A very big thanks to everyone for the posts its really helped a lot for s new hiy to smart phones, and no I don't trust them, I always been a fan of f secure and when I put it I my phone it shows all that every app can do.....males one think...

Text secure Wickr and a few others, but so far o not do I.d a way to root.

I forgot to say that I uninstalled CM And things have got a bit better still more to go this ASUS ZenFone c is a bit slow but that ok I just need to get my skills up to par. I looking for a root and other then that its just play with apps to find the best ones, as we all know you can't trust what any .com said is good ;)

First off thanks a ton Emon and Crash for all you do here.

I have a couple of questions which possibly have been answered before (change possibly to most likely), however I lack the time to read every post in this thread. I used to use DU or CM but now know better. The two functions I used them for were the battery saving functionality (i know, i know) and clearing up storage space.

My question is, what are alternatives? I saw early on in this thread the plug for GSam (which I have installed and love).
My aging Moto G 2014 is quickly running out of internal storage space. Is there a recommended nonchinesebased onoestheyarespyingonme app that will tell me distinctly which app(s), files, etc are the culprits?

I like DiskUsage, which gives a nice visual overview of how the storage is being used. :thumbsupdroid:

OK so #1 culprit a game (which I knew) #2 Motorola Spotlight Player taking up about 200mb. Cleared data down to 20mb. one of these days I'll lrn2root and will be rid of those crap apps for good :)

Thanks codesplice.

The trouble is that these uninstallable apps live in a separate partition from your downloaded apps (/system) so rooting and uninstalling them won't free up any realistically usable storage for you.
Best thing you can do is clear data, uninstall updates, then disable them :thumbsupdroid:

He's absolutely correct I've rooted 4 phones since I've learned the ins and outs and its nice to get rid of the bloatwear but you dontnreclaime a kb of memory for uninstalling any "crap apps" that Google ingrained in you're phone.
