Today i was trying to unroot my desire after fed up with bootloop issues...

The radio sometimes fails when the download is corrupt / incomplete.

Sounds like now you have a radio brick.

I'd consider sending it to HTC advising this happened when you updated the phone to the latest firmware.

I dont think there is anything you can do now.

After Contecting HTC, replied i got is as under...

To clarify your issue, you stated that: You are facing problem in your HTC Desire.

In this regard we would like to intimate you that as per telephonic conversation with Mr. Kailash on dated March 23, 2011 at 09:40 AM, we would like to inform you that as per your information you have purchased your device from out of India (Singapore). You may go for the following steps to perform Hard Reset but we can not assure you that will it work or not:

1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
4. Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset.

Note: - In the restore factory settings all your data will be lost. We request you to take the Backup the phone before doing Hard Reset.

If issue persists we would like to intimate you that HTC India can provide you Global Warranty Services in India. If your handset is in warranty (For proof Bill and GWS Certificate required) then we can repair you handset in India and you will have to pay 30 USD as handling charges.

HTC

I have unbranded device and so that i need to pay charges of parts i.e. main board in my case....Can someone brief me the cost if anyone have idea on that.....

Although you have debranded or attempted to debrand the device, it is not definite that they will charge you for it.

Send it to them and if they give you a quote, thats your price. You've nothing to lose really.

I'd probably recommend removing personal details from the post above to be honest

Also, it's very unlikely the mainboard will need replacing. You've managed to get it into a state where it can't update itself because it can't boot, but it's very unlikely anything is physically damaged. It should be a simple matter for a service centre to flash the board with the proper equipment. In that case, you would just have to pay for their time, and that may be covered under the USD40 charge.

This, BTW is the very reason I'm too chicken to go the custom ROM route. I work for a large elecronics company, and am much happier having a fallback in these situations where the board can be removed from the chassis and reflashed on the bench.

I agree with you there SiHa, but from what I've seen, HTC do tend to go for hardware swap out.

I know we mere mortals cannot flash anything into radio once corrupted, but there is NO WAY software corruption can physically damage NVRAM.

All I can assume is that they swap it out for quick return, then work on it for reconditioned units in their own time.

So its final to go to HTC for repair...I dont have any other option available....Right?
Now the point is, the place i am staying is a kind of village (Working on a project being civil engineer)...Searched on net and the nearest service station is @ 300 KMs away.....

OMG..What should i do in this situation.....???

I think i have to wait up to my next leave...3 Months May be.....

I gonna MAD with this HTC stuff......

Thanks frnds for your helping hands here......Just update me if you ppl find any other in-house solution for me......

Just one Q??
Is it possible to use teppic74's Downgrade utility without booting device.....
just asking as my laptop is still recognizing my desire...

Thanks Again...

No, you need bootable for teppic's downgrade tool.

You can contact HTC and they will allow you to Mail it.

Purely out of curiosity, what causes this problem?

As some will be aware, I suffered this problem while attempting to unroot so I could send my phone off to repair the rebooting problem I also suffered with.

I'm tempted to re-root but I am reluctant to do so until I'm sure the reboot problem is fixed. However, if/when I needed to unroot and flash a stock ROM, I wouldn't want to encounter this radio brick problem again.

Is it pot luck? Or is there something one can do to avoid it?

For anyone who hasn't read my other post http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/409498-question-rooting-goldcards-2.html

I managed to save my phone from the black triangles of death by running the branded RUU my phone originally had.

Just plugged it into the PC, as it was, and ran the RUU and it worked.

I still have an issue where I load into hboot and it tries to downgrade to 2.1, but it can't as I removed the zip folder from my SD card. So it gives me the option to cancel the upgrade and reboot to normal boot.

So at least my phone is working, and as long as I don't need to go into hboot it works as originally.

slightly different but similar, your issue is because you still have pb99img.zip on the card.

you didnt get a radio fail through flash, it was something else that looked like a radio brick.
this guy tried to do the ruu again already and it doesnt work

hi guys i am a total newb in htc phones , and i have a htc desire for repair for my sister , i have 4 corners triangles with white htc logo and nothing i try works if i plug out usb than i get white screen with RUU and bottom 2 triangles,

i have read a bit but its so darn hard to understand how to fix this .

i am technical as i can fix almost all iphone and blackberry problems only not htc ..... yet . feel free to email me thx

As you'll have seen from the thread above, this symptom indicates that the phone is in a very bad state. Depending on what went wrong it may or may not be repairable - do you know what happened to get the phone in this state?

I would suggest trying an RUU (ROM Update Utility), as mentioned above. This is a Windows program which will try to reflash the phone's software completely.

Unless you have a goldcard (see the rooting FAQ, which you can find from the red link in my sig or the "all about rooting" sticky post in the root subforum) you need to find the RUU corresponding to the phone's original network branding (if it was branded - an unbranded one if not). You can find a collection of RUUs at shipped-ROMs. That link is for the GSM version (Bravo) - if your phone is CDMA you need model Bravo_C, but they only have one of those so you may need to look elsewhere. Again, the rooting FAQ will have a little more information on these.

If you can get into the bootloader (white screen with menu, accessed by booting while pressing the "volume down" key) you may have extra options, since there is a way of reflashing from there (using a PB99IMG.zip file - another way of running the RUU). But you may not be able to do this. I'd anyway suggest trying running the RUU over USB first.

I am facing an issue with my HTC desire SLCD rooted with CWM recovery 4.0 , S-OFF after rooting phone it was working fine for a long time .

Recently I try to reflash with a sense based ROM Aurora which got stuck on HTC white screen.

I can reach bootloader as well as recovery (Power + Volume down)

Try to read the memory card from recovery E: Can't read the SD/card , SD card cannot be mount. Can you please help and advice how I can comeout of this ?

forget to tell my desire is CM7 r2 partition . I am totaly helpless, I desperately need your help to fixing this

@ Hadron:

the phone is not carrier locked . just one day it would get stuck on white screen with green logo , at that point i have tried lots off difffrernt RUU's all stopped at signing error.

i have also tried the PB99IMG.ZIP thing but ( i dont quite understand that yet ) it did not work

until i found an offficial desire 2.3 update and used that ruu it went past the signing part and got stuck at 18 % of radio update , so i waited and wated till i pulled usb , and tried again , this time it got till 22% with same error only with a exclamation triangle mark next to the green progressbar on the phone . and it got stuck there . so now when i turn on the phone it goes to the 4 corner tringle and grey htc logo screen . if i pull the usb i get the white screen with some things written in green and followed by RUU in orange and 2 bottom corners triangles with exclamation marks.

and thats it .

Oh, that's not good. A bad radio flash is likely to brick the phone beyond recovery (or at any rate beyond what we mortals can do). If this happened during the radio update part of the RUU, I fear that might be what you have.

The only good news I can think of is that the standard HTC warranty is 2 years, and if this happened when running the official 2.3 RUU then you were doing nothing that would void the warranty, so with any luck they will fix or replace it for you.

well than i am really out of luck , i live in Suriname - South America/ Caribean. and the phone was bought unlocked abroad so even if it was still under warranty there is no way i could send it back .

well that is it ill just throw it away and be done.

thx for ur help

also when i pull out the usb cable this is what i get :
