Help [Q] Prevail bricked?

Klown80

Newbie
I have a friend that has a Prevail and brought it to me today with it stuck at the boot screen. It starts to boot when you power on and it loads the white Samsung Logo with www. samsung .com underneath, then it freezes. I have tried to use Odin to reflash and all the write commands in Odin go through without any errors but when it reboots its still freezes no matter which version rom I load. I can not get into recovery either, it freezes on the same screen. But obviously I can still get into download mode. Any Ideas anyone?????

Thank you in advance hopefully!!!

The first time I used Odin I got frustrated, but I was unzipping the entire tar instead of just loading it. If it turns on Odin can bring it back. It might help to go to YouTube and search the video by murderousone

I am pretty sure I am using it correctly. I am loading the SPHM820.ops, then I load the BOOT.tar, PHONE.tar, and even PDA.tar, it shows it downloading and everything but like I said, as soon as it reboots it freezes every time! None the less, thanks for the reply and trying to help! :)

Have you tried just re-installing cwm and flashing a ROM?
No guarantee... Did he mention if it is related to the new update, or something he did?
What was he running prior to the problem?

I cant get into recovery and it does not respond to adb so I have no way to install a new recovery or rom. Even after running the boot.tar, phone.tar, and the pda.tar in Odin all it will do is START to boot until it reaches the first Samsung screen then freeze as usual. I do not remember which version rom he had installed, I am wanting to say it was the EE14 because I rooted it like 2 months ago but I do not remember for sure. He said the battery died last night and when he went to plug it in this morning this is all it would do.

I also followed the video from murderousone but I was already doing the steps correctly. I am stuck at this point and out of ideas....

Sounds like it might be warrantee repair time... :/ or at least above my pay grade... :D

Try flashing cwm in Odin using the one package option...?

I have Odin 4.42 and I just ried the CWM recovery one package zip for Odin using these directions in link below and still no luck!! I am thinking I finally found a phone I can not fix!! :(

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...m-recovery-utility-update-01-12-12-fixed.html

Either way, thank you all for the suggestions. I really appreciate you trying to help me. I read that with it able to go into download mode it should have been fixable but I am about to give up since I am completely out of ideas.

One last thought I had was maybe your files got corrupted. You could redownload or try the Odin 4.43 that comes with the new fa19 or try as hroark13 says, different port, different cord, different computer...:-)

I tried it with a different computer, different wire, and different download using Odin 4.43. Still no luck.....

If anyone thinks I may be doing something wrong, or thinks they can fix it I would be more than happy to connect through teamviewer and let you have a whack at it. I have tried and retried EVERYTHING I can think of and nothing works!!! I know a few people have said if it can get into download mode it is fixable, if that is indeed true I would love for someone, anyone to show me what I am doing wrong for future reference (hopefully not needed though). If anyone wants to give it a shot, shoot me a PM or email klownkevin@yahoo.com

Thanks for all your suggestions everyone, I appreciate it and few I though might work but nothing yet.

Does anyone have the EFS.tar file from FA19 rooted I can use in Odin? Or more importantly is it even possible or would I possibly fully brick the phone? I ask because I have flashed the boot.tar, phone.tar, pda.tar, and even csc.tar already with no luck , so I figure at this point it couldnt hurt to try an EFS.tar.

I am waiting to contact Samsung tomorrow since my buddy bought it back in Aug. I know it is still covered by warranty, so he may just have to go that route...

*EDIT* I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, when you flash boot, phone, and pda .tars through Odin, do you get the big partition size message like below?

Changing or even VIEWING that partition triggers an auto-brick feature and disables the cdma radio

Yea, i have gotten it. it only becomes a problem if it stops there... But it's going past and appears to be finishing...

I figure it would be wise to ask before messing with anything. What does the debug options in Odin do? IS there any of those options that I need to check maybe to get the Prevail to reboot without freezing?

Parameter Clear
PDA Format
MD5 RAM Check
Phone EFS Clear
Phone Boot Update

Honestly , I'm not sure about the debugging mode . I will say this though , if your phone will not work after flashing the PDA , BOOT and Phone.tars , I think that you may have a paper weight on your hands . I may be wrong and I hope that I am but I've never seen one fixed if it wouldn't take those tar files . Except maybe with a JIG and I'm sure that you don't have one of those lying around . It may need to go back to Samsung .
