Root Question about Amon Ra

Im quite sure this has been asked b4 but Amon Ra and the sprint lovers rom have the same name. I had to delete Amon b4 i could put sprint lovers rom on my card and when i went into recovery it seemed to be looking for the original file and when it couldnt find it the phone found the sprint lovers zip and asked me did i want to update which i said yes and it flashed the rom. My question is that normal? will i still be able to create a nandroid backup? and do i need to keep all the zips on my card? I read that the tethering app and sprint hot spot re included but i dont see anything about tethering in the apps list. How do i get those things to work? I know its a long post but I dont want to have to create multiple posts asking different things. Thx in advance to antone who cares to help.

What I get from this is that both amon ra and sprint lovers ROM are named PC36IMG.zip. Is that true? If so, that's weird. What I would try doing is flashing Amon Ra first. Then go in Amon Ra, and select toggle-MS or something like that. That should bring your SD card up on your computer. Remove amon ra PC36IMG. Unmount your SD card, then proceed to the wipe section. Wipe userdata/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache. Then proceed to do a nandroid backup of your current rom. Once again, toggle ms, then copy the nandroid backup to your PC or a flash drive or something safe for backing important files up. Then put the sprint lover PC36IMG.zip on there. Reboot, and do the update process. Once sprint lovers is installed, mount the SD card from the ROM, and remove PC36IMG. That should do you well.

You should be fine. Sprint Lovers is one of the only roms to flash the same way as a recovery. Usually, you'll use amon ra to flash the zip file of the rom (IE ROM_VERSION.zip). You should be fine.

For the sprint hotspot, that's included in a lot of sense roms (almost all of them) though, I'm sure you could find the .apk on xda. Also you could try wifi tether in the market.

Most often you'll want to nandroid before wiping.

Amon ra is a recovery. You should flash it first. Then delete it from your sd card. Then from your boot loader screen select recovery. This will load you into aman ra and allow you to do a nandroid backup. Once you have done that you will be able to flash roms from inside amon ra with "flash zip" option.

I would do this asap as flashing roms can rarely lose your wimax keys. That would cost you 4g forever without a backup of them.

Ah, I always thought it was the other way around. Sorry about that, lol. Do it the other way around.

the only time when I'd wipe before is if you wanted a cleaner version of your current rom. The factory reset will wipe out your texts, calls, and apps, which is usually what you try to keep with a nandroid.

If it was for the stock backup, then I could see that being how to do it.

I actually already flashed the sprint lovers rom and i like the familiar look. i just opened up the phone on my pc and trashed the original amon ra zip. Im not actually doing any nandroid backups other than the original one when i first rooted 2 days ago since i dont have any files to loose and i can just link to google again for my contacts. I am doing wipes and then using the super wipe zip though after i flash each rom. I flashed a gingerbread rom and then i couldnt even find the option in settings for connect to pc so i couldnt even add any files to my card. i had to restore the factory rom to add the sprint lovers rom. Every time i boot into bootloader it would ask me if i wanted to update the amon ra zip which i said yes. now that i have the sprint lovers rom running bootloader will ask if i want to update that zip. Should i just check no and continue into recovery.

Might want to remove the amon ra file after you've flashed that.
Once you have wimax keys, that's the big thing with nandroids, you're pretty much set. A lot of folks around here don't like to restore old nandroids, and prefer to just re-download their apps and stuff.
With GB, you should plug in phone, then pull down the notif bar and select the USB mode. Or something should pop up and ask you.

thx for that info. what exact are the wimax keys and where are they? I do remember when doing the first nandroid backup that i saved that so whats its importance. thx again....

wimax keys are the radios that is responsible for giving you your 4g signal. if you loose those keys you will not have any 4g. so it is important to always have your wimax keys backed up and kept in a safe place. it is possible, though higly unlikely (i mean like a 1% chance) that you could loose your wimax keys just by flashing a files. the only time that i know of where you have more of a chance to loose your wimax keys is when you flash radios.

here read this:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...before-you-flash-your-radios-read-thread.html

now this is just a warning. do not let it scare you into not updating your radios.
