Question about buying a used Indulge

Hi, quick question. If I buy a used phone, would it make any difference if the previous owner simply stopped paying for his account, as opposed to canceling his account?

The reason I ask is because I want to buy a used one and use *228 to simply switch my account into that used phone, but I don't know if it's as simple as that.

(Assuming the phone has a good IMEID, and has never been reported stolen or lost)

We cannot emphasize how important it is to check that the esn was not reported lost or stolen.
there's good incentive for the previous owner to do that if he plans on selling it, since he can then pay the deductible and get another one to sell again. Dishonest, yes. But I've seen worse.
But if it is a legit device, call it in for activation or visit a store, cause you'll need a different plan to work on the 4g network, in theory. You can always try activating it over the phone yourself, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

yes i 2nd that what tiede said b4 u give him the money *228 and see if u can get it activated with ur account if so u can give him the money.

Yes you should certainly be cautious.HERE is a place to verify the ESN but don't depend on it solely, if it says its has a good ESN then continue to call to verify it.If it says its bad it is most likely still bad. I wouldn't even continue the transaction at that point.

Hope this helps.

Use the 'check esn free' website.

I bought my indulge, with an overdue bill of 90$ which had to be paid to be de-activated and moved to my number(at least that was the conclusion I came to)

Long story short, I had to wait almost a whole month before the old account deactivated itself. (I guess thats why after a month of non payment you lose your number)

Over that month that I had to wait I was checking the phones esn weekly, till it cleared..

Yeah you don't wanna be stuck with a phone that becomes a very nice paper weight. Always check ESN's before buying phones. Even if it's your best friend. They could have ended service with all bills paid and the ESN still be faulty because they didn't fully take the phone off of the account. You never know.

Oh yeah - well back on topic then - check the ESN

That's what every post before this has been suggesting. When the other post suggest to check ESN they give a different variation of how to do it.
Do you have something other than by just stating check ESN.
Most of the time when someone agrees with a someone they post a +1 and sometimes give additional info to assist in the current issue at hand.
When you say you want to add something ,its usually insinuates you have different additional not already determined info.
Do you know of a different way of checking the ESN that has not already been suggested?

Thanks for your input.:D
