Help Question about Camera Key Button

I just received my Optimus V today! I am loving it so far. I just called up to activate it. But, I notice that the camera button needs a semi-hard push in the center to activate. The voice button next to it seems solid. Is this normal? Is this so the button won't be pressed by accident when in your pocket?

Okay. Great! I get it now! When I go into the camera app and press it slightly it focuses. I hope my porting goes fast. :) I am eager to try the 3G! Reception in my house is VERY strong. When I called in to have my number ported the representative was very helpful and allowed me to activate it before adding the airtime I received from HSN. So far I am impressed.

The default lockscreen shouldn't permit your phone to be enabled when the camera button is pushed, so no worries there. ;)

Otherwise, yes. I have noticed the camera button to be a bit persnickety. :p

Glad to hear it isn't just me! The first thing I thought when I pulled it out of the box and discovered it was I don't want to send it back and exchange!

BTW, how long does the average port take? My number is being transferred over from T-Mobile Prepaid. Even though I had like a $8 balance there, I got too excited and didn't even bother to use it up!:)

The Optimus is way faster than my T-Mobile Comet. I am shocked by it.

When dealing with that tiny camera button on the side of the phone, I've found when I use my fingernail instead of my fingertip then it's a bit more precise (either edge of button to activate camera, and center of the button to focus and snap picture). I should of been more clear about that in my previous post.. sorry bout that. :(

If you don't like fiddling with that side button, you can always go into your apps list, hold down the Camera icon with your finger (long-press) and let it create a shortcut to your home screen.

Here's the info I found from VM on the length of time for porting numbers. There's other factors to consider as well... glad I looked that up because I had no idea! I thought it would be easier than it is.

Hope this was more helpful than my previous post!

Both of your posts were helpful! Thanks for the tip about using your fingernail and the link for the porting information. I am really hoping it finishes porting by tonight. Then I supposedly have to call another number to have my free month added which may take 24 hours. Luckily I got it today, early in the week. I am going to break it in for my trip next week!:)

Porting only took a few hours for me (I think, seeing as how I didn't get the confirmation SMS). I was sitting there waiting, then I went to login to my account on the VM site, and turns out it was already activated. I had a Verizon number. Try logging in to see if it's activated, just in case.

I tried it and it says the number does not exist. I'll try it again in a few hours. Thanks for the tip!

I just called Virgin Mobile to verify the port again. They said that they are already starting to communicate with T-Mobile and that the port is pending. Everything looks good! I am glad I called though because the representative took down my alternate number just in case there is a problem. He also said it should take around 24 hrs. from now.:)

Looks like port just went through! Logged into Virgin Mobile acct. online and it came up! Then I flipped on my new Optimus and received a welcome message. I just called in to receive the free month of service as part of my package. That might take another 24 hrs.:( But so far things are moving pretty fast!

Free Minutes were added about 20 minutes after I called it in! My Optimus is now activated and ready to go! Thanks to everyone who helped me! I think that I am really going to enjoy this phone!

i rarely use the camera button... i used it at first but found it causes the phone to twitch when it's pressed leading to ghosting... now i just use the button on the screen

I've been having that same problem with every camera I ever owned! ;)

Some people put their thumb in front of the lense, I just can't hold the darn thing still and press down on a tiny button at the same time! :p

Day 1: I love my new Optimus. I haven't installed any appkillers yet. I tried voice commands today and that works surprisingly good. While I was using it I kept asking myself, how is this only $25/month?

Glad you like your V. A word of caution: this forum is covered in tales of warning against using task killers - your operating systems handles this by itself, and you can always manually close apps via safer methods, either with shortcuts or manually fc'ing the app on the running services menu.
Have you tried the speech to text option in the texting? Very cool - and don't forget you can override curse words in the settings - voice input and output - voice recognizer - block offensive language.

I tried two task killers on my T-Mobile Comet that was running 2.2 as well. This time I am going to try without it on my Optimus.

I saw the texting via speech on a demo, but haven't tried it yet. Yes, I saw that setting for offensive words last night. I know someone that had an Android and she didn't know there was a setting to turn it off. She was mad at her phone every time it censored her.:)

Looking more forward to bringing this phone with me on vacation. It'll help me navigate around and so much more.

Melissa is right. ;)

You might want to check out the free version of Watchdog. It's not an automated task killer... it will sit silently in the background watching for apps that might use too much CPU. If that happens, you'll get an alarm along with an option to kill the app. It gives you more control than an automated app killer, and is better for your phone. :p

Thanks for the tip! I might try that app eventually. My phone will get the real test this weekend when I take it on a vacation for around a week. There will be some areas where there is no Computer or Internet. Thankfully I will have my new Optimus!:)
